Most ptacs I've worked on always seemed to be the control board. The relays attached to the control board(circuit board) fail quite often. You should be able to hear the compressor cycle on during cool or heat. If the comp is operating, check for ice on the indoor and outdoor coils. And the air filter. If this don't help you'll need to call for help.

Does the unit cool ok? If yes, you likely have a problem with reversing valve. If no, likely a refrigerant problem.

I have a Friedrich PD model PTAC unit controlled by a chassis mounted Smart Center. The power on/off key will not work so I cannot get the unit to power on. Can this be repaired or will the board hav

check the reset button on the plug if it has one. If not you will need to replace the control board. Check on the board I can't remember this unit but some have a fuse on the board.

Ptac heating problem

This is the service manual for this system. It might give you an idea on what the problem could be. Page 27 should be your area to start. There are two for the PTAC series. I'm not sure which one will pertain to you.

I purchased a Friedrich PDH15KS BTU Cooling, 17,000 BTU Heating, 9.3 EER PTAC Air Conditioner With Heat Pump and 5.0 KW Backup Electric Heat....in October of 2007...it was installed in November and ran...

The Warranty will be expired. Sounds like the contactor for the heater is wearing. Obviously a guess, but, "rattling" sounds like a bad cintactor to me. If thats the case, im guessing $100 diagnostic, $75 for the contactor, ISH...Best Wishes!!
