The ISP help desk said that it is definitly connected because it recieves info when you type a whole series of numbers into the address bar. Its strane because when I have used dial up the address bar worked.

Thanks for the help. I took it into the computer shop and he said that he would use a program to find spyware? I couldn't really understand his accent but he also mentioned that if the program couldnt delete what was blocking the connection then he would need to reinstall windows and I would lose my microsoft package.

Hopefully this works, its just a rther expensive option.

Thanks for your help, Im sure that it would have been easier for you if I actually knew a bit more about what I was talking about so I could provide adequate information!

I left this at your other inquiry, but I think you might of missed it, so I am copying it here. Good luck.
Open Internet Explorer, under the tools tab, select "Internet options". Once there, select the "Connections" tab. At the top you will see, "To setup and Internet connection, click "Setup", click on "Setup", once there, click "next", On the next page, make sure "connect to the internet" is selected and click next. On the next page click, "Setup my connection manually", click next. On the next page select(Make sure it reads exactly as follows), "Connect using a broadband connection that is always on", click next. On the next page, click "finish". That should do it.

Please tell us what OS you are using(98, ME, XP, Vista, ETC.). Until then, please try the following. With Internet Explorer open, click on the "Tools" tab and select, "Internet Options", once there, click on the "Connections" tab. When that opens, under the heading "Dial-up and Virtual Private Networking", see if your former dial-up ISP(AOL, ETC.) is listed. If so, delete those components(Providing you are not using it to check this site). If you formerly used AOL, uninstall it from the Add-Remove programs funtion in the control panel. Also under that heading, make sure "Never Dial a Connection" is checked. Hit the "Apply" button when it becomes available. Next under the heading" Local Area Network(LAN) settings", click the "LAN settings" button, look to see if "Automatically Detect Settings" is checked. Try it both ways(checked and unchecked). Note Internet Explore may need to be closed and reopened for changes to take affect. Good luck. If this does not work, I am not giving up on you, just reply with some feedback and your OS.

My best guess with the limited info given is that your settings on your computer are somehow not right. My best guess is your IP address is not correct. When you right click on my network places and go to properties you should see a list of connections. Double click on the one you believe is your internet. Click on the support tab and at the top it should say next to address type "assigned by dhcp" not "manually assigned". Hope this helps.

Verify internet connection-not connecting

reset the router by holding in the reset button for 15 to 20 seconds, then wait for all lights to return. If you have DSL wait for the dsl light to be on solid, once thats complete if your using vista and still unable to connect run "diagnose and repair". If after that your still unable to connect, open "run" type "cmd" and hit enter....the type "ipconfig" and hit enter, you should get an ip address, subnet and default gateway. one at a time type "ping" hit space bar 1 time then type the ip address in as shown in the list and hit enter, if 4 return then ping the default gateway, if it returns 4 then ping www.yahoo.com, if return 4 then remove Norton or Mcafee from your system and try again.

My wireless router wont work

You need to (temporarily) hook a computer up to your router using an ethernet cable to set it up properly so you can send out a wireless internet signal with it. To connect to your router with a computer simply open your web browser and type in the router's address in URL web address bar. Consult your router's documentation to determine the exact address for your model. Note that you do not need a working Internet connection for this step.

Linskys wireless-g broadband router not connecting to network

first thing, we need to know what this d-link is... Is this a modem? or another router? Can you check its model #, perhaps at the back? How many ports does it have? To verify your internet connection, try connecting your computer to the dlink and check its IP address (Go to Start> Run> type "cmd". On the black window, type "ipconfig"). Do you have internet connection when your pc is straight to the dlink?

I'm thinking that dlink is conflicting with the linksys settings. If it is, we need to change the IP address of the linksys router. Post back what you find out.

Laptop finding router but no internet connection

If you can connect directly to your virgin Media Broadband and get internet then your laptop and broadband router is fine.

The wireless router appears not to have a DNS entry and you will need to add that manually.

I suggest that you connect directly to the Broadband modem, be sure you can get onto the internet. Once you have confirmed you can get onto the internet you need to get the dns information from your Broadband modem for later.

once connected directly to the broadband modem, click start>run> then type "CMD" then click open. you will get a prompt type the following and record the DNS Server ip addresses.

"ipconfig /all" then hit enter
this will display your ipaddress information but mostly you need the DNS server ip addresses.

once you have recorded them rerun the install, but this time instead of at the end of the install where it shows the Wireless router information you can modify or change it and add the DNS server entries.

Also by default most wireless routers ip address is 192.168.1.1 and you can type that from a internet explorer and change it from there as well. I believe it's no ID or user name and the password is admin.

Good luck

Doesn't work with windows vista

1. check if there are lights on the specific router port where you have connected the Vista (e.g. if it is on port 2, check if there are lights on #2 at the front panel of the router).
2. check the ip address by going to command prompt (click start-run-type cmd press enter. on the command prompt, type ipconfig/all)
3. ip address should be similar to what your Windows XP is getting. Subnet mask, gateway, and DNS servers should be identical.

Eg. If XP has a 192.168.1.100 IP, your Vista should have 192.168.1.x IP address where x is a variable number other than 100.

4. If your IP address, subnet mask, default gateway, and DNS seems aligned for both PCs, check your browser settings. Open IE, go to tools, internet options, network connection and make sure that never dial a connection is selected.

Internet hookup

This is not the manufacturer's site, but i will try to help.
Is it your own network?
You need to make sure that the network is not protected, or you'll need the password.
Go to Start>Control Panel on your computer
Then go to Network Connections
There should be an icon for your wireless connection.
Right-click -> select Properties
In the selectbox select 'Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)'
Click Properties
Check if 'Obtain an IP-address automatically' and 'Obtain DNS-server' are selected
If they were not, Press <Ok> two times and try to connect to the wireless network again.

Can you also tell what IP-address you get?
Find it by going to Start > Run
Type 'cmd' without the quotation marks and press <Ok>
you get a black command box
type 'ipconfig', again without the quotation marks and press <Enter>
Please tell me the IP-address it tells you...
