Looking to repower 1997 Four Winns bowrider with newer outboard engine. What max HP is boat rated for? Found Yamaha 150 XB 2016 for a good price . Will boat work with a 25 inch shaft? Thanks,Kathy

There should be a manufacturers plate attached to the hull of the boat with a number of passengers it can carry and the max hp motor allowed to be fitted
talk with boat shops as they will know the approximate hp for each make of boat and length
while it may be attractive to fit big hp motors to small boats , it in fact makes the boat less sea worthy and makes capsizing easier so get the advice right from the boat shops

What is the maximum outboard hp recommended for a 1989 18' Sunbird center console.
There should be a Coast Guard registration plate that recommends a maximum horse power rating for that boat. If there is none, the rating in the range of 200 to 300 HP is enough. IF you are sure of the length 300 HP is pushing it.
