When you're talking to someone, try increasing the volume then. If you increase the volume when not on a call, you only increase the volume for your ring tones.

Listening Volume
During a call, the right arrow will increase the volume, left arrow will decrease it. You can test it with no call and it will adjust the ring volume. There is a scale of 1-7 with 1 being lowest. Could be the quality of the connection if the volume's already at 7!
