    Thanks Mumma_1,

I should have made myself more clear.
I have run a virus scan to no avail and i have not been able to manually find anything wrong with my PC.
When i attempt a system restore, i get to the point where i have choosen a restore point and when i click NEXT to perform the restore i get Nothing.
Even when i try to Defrag an error message pops up saying "System Defrag could not start"
This problem is doing my head in as i previously considered myself a reasonably avid PC user.... Frustrating and scary...Help Help Help

You are right, sounds like a virus or 3!!!
I am just about to use an online scanner tool as my antivirus software (TrendMicro - PC Cillan) did not pick up anything (very unusual).
FYI: I am running XP sp3.

I will post the results when i get them.

Thankyou for your persistence and patience in relation to my problem.

    God Bless

Sounds like you may have a virus (trojan) on your computer. Run a scan using a virus scan program such as Mcafee to see if you have virus' on your computer.

Hi,

Assuming that you didn't do a fresh install of windows, Do this:

When the blue screen with the HP Invent logo

appears, press the F10 key on the keyboard. (You

have only a few seconds to press the F10 key
before the normal startup process continue

Then Select Full System Recovery (which will erase whatever you had in computer such as personal files, etc). Pretty much your system will be back as Factory Image
Thanks

My Gateway GT5404 Freezes

1. your hard drive may be at what is called the "end - of - life"
2. I suggest that you try to backup important files if you can get into the pc screen again.
3. PC freezing is sometimes due to a failing power supply, a failing hard drive, and or a depleted CMOS battery.

IMAC SCREEN FREEZES OR GOES BLACK.

same thing happens to me - most of the time it will just randomly freeze; occasionally i get an unresponsive black screen. this 24' aluminum imac usually has startup problems also - sometimes it will "gong" and nothing else; sometimes the apple logo will come up and then nothing else; sometimes it will load the logo and then spin for a few seconds and then freeze - the only option is to manually shut down. there is no rhyme or reason to it

I am running Windows Vista on 2 laptops and can't play Webkinz on either - freezes when I try to login. The only laptop that will allow it is an old dell running Windows XP - please help

Try booting one unit at a time. This will allow your IP configuration to setup each unit at a time.
Next, if that does not work with the logon problem, adjust your network IP to a one IP address

You can check these settings by typing ipconfig at a command prompt.
You first unit should read 192.168.0.1 and the other unit must be set to a different number.

When booting up the system, it freezes up

First of all you must turn on your computer. Then follow the steps are given below,

1.When system is booting you can see some screens appear ( bios screens). After the first display finished please hit F8 key on your keyboard.

2.You will appear "Windows Advanced Option Menu" like thisc586fee.jpg
3.Select Safe Mode & press enter. Some dos screens may appear. Windows Safe Mode is now starting.

4.When the user selection screen appears please select administrator account & login.

5.When desktop loads completely you can see start button.

6.Press start button --> All programs --> Accessories --> System Tools --> System Restore.

7.When the system restore wizard appears you can restore you computer to an earlier time.

8.Select a proper restore point before you install that AVG 8.5. Then select and restore you want.

9.An automatic process will start. When that process completes system will reboot automatically.

10.When System is rebooting don't hit F8 again, Please allow normal booting. Please login your user account & check your problem is fixed or not. If fixed you can install another antivirus program.

Krishan.
