Sony KDL-40XBR2 - powers on, backlight is on, no pic, turn it off and back on, same for 10 to 15 seconds, then TV does power off/back on by itself...most of the time picture then shows up.

When screen is black it's easy to tell backlight is working...nothing else will show up including menu or on-screen input indicator. Sometimes when the power off/on cycle occurs the screen will initially flicker for a few seconds before settling in. Once screen comes on picture is excellent as always.

Finally got the TV where I could remove back cover and for the life of me I can't see any distorted caps or any indications of excess heat on any of the boards. The TV did finally fail...wouldn't come on initially and then when it finally did just lines going across entire screen. I'm willing to just order a replacement board if I knew which one??? :(

Hello ikpeck , If you get the manual, or model or serial number to any technical tv store, they may help you with these, as I can say, it is a power capacitor issue, or inverter video board. but for be sure, I suggest to visit your local TV tech store. remember its your money! :)

Depending on your enegy, on home, if is variable or steady 110V
you can check these on your TV, but safety first, or seek a qualify tech:
1) bad capacitor for power module **
2) bad inverter board or capacitors burn.

good luck!

Tv power cuts on power light lit no picture then Tv turns it self off, when picture appears there's waves in picture and tv turns itself back off and on with no picture just black scree

Hi Patty
If your LCD TV or monitor has stopped working, or is displaying one of the following symptoms, then it's a candidate for some new capacitors
- Flickering screen
- Screen image disappears after several seconds
- Dim screen
- Slow start
- Power LED on, but no picture
- Unusual colors and/or lines
The primary cause of LCD TV and monitor failure is caused by faulty capacitors. You can examine the capacitors in your LCD TV or monitor and actually see if they are bad.
If they appear bulged on top, then they need to be replaced.
New capacitors will solve a host of problems in LCD monitors and TV's and will extend the life of your monitor or TV by several years.
Check the cables, connectors and connections.
If your TV, flatscreen, or monitor is more than 5 years old it is more like to have suffered a component failure.
Take it to a repair shop.

40xbr2 bravia kdl sony LCD tv. The screen shuts

Problems relating to the automatic turn on and turn off of a set like this usually point to the main board being an issue. For this set, I believe Sony refers to that board as the "AU" board.

It's probably not the G/Power Supply board, especially if it turns itself on. Power supplies will turn a set off, but rarely--rarely--turn itself on.

If there's no kind of extended warranty involved here,
you could be looking at $500.00 for parts and labor to repair this kind of problem.

As always, try any software/firmware updates Sony might have available on their website prior to pursuing a repair visit.

Sony KDL-46s2010 4 red light blinks

I would suspect one or more of the miniature flourescent backlight lamps. One way to confirm this would be to power up the set with a grayscale image at 40 to 60 IRE. If one or more lamps is failing to light, a slightly darker horizontal area in the grayscale will give it away. Unfortunately, Sony will not supply any of the backlight components apart from a new LCD panel. Sorry.

Tv immediately turns off

Four flashes indicates a problem with the backlight on the TV. It can be caused by the backlight inverter board (the power supply for the backlight) or by defective backlights in the panel It is USUALLY the backlight inverter board that is bad, but I have seen both components fail at various times. This set is fairly new and should still be withing the one year warranty, so you should contact Sony at 800-222-SONY to get it repaired. Be sure to rate this solution. Thanks!
