Sounds like you could have a bad mother board. Very common problem with the GE models. It will shut compressor off, than everything starts to melt, then it comes back on. Replace main control board and it should resolve your issue.

The problem you are having is most likely a defective=> WR55X10473 Main Control Board. The defective WR55X10473 Main Control Board may have been caused by a defective=> WR60X10185 Evaporator Fan Motor. If your motor has a white thermistor in the connector you need the related fan motor WR60X10074. If it has a connector for a light you will need a=> WR23X10467 Fan Motor Reason I am telling you this is because if the fan is defective it can again damage the Main Control Board. The control board must be replaced.

You should have included instructions that came with this board and the serial# is what dictates if a wire is cut or not on the main board. there also might be a wire on the harness that plugs into the wall that needs to be cut although I have yet to find one.
