It's worth checking that no threads, hair or debris are caught within the machine. Hi, the first thing to check is the bearing at the end of the brush bar, take the belt off and spin the brush round with your hand to see if it makes a noise. Check the belt to see if there is any teeth missing off the belt or brush, then start the motor up without the belt or brush on that will tell you if it's the motor or bearing...

probably a flat spot on the belt, replace the belt

You might be able to save yourself some money and do it yourself. When it makes loud noises like that it usually indicates that there is an issue with the brush roll and/or belt. Try cleaning out the roller brush and replace the belt. You can get a replacement belt here:

Loud noises are usually caused by worn belts, unbalanced roller brush or debris in the roller brush. Check these things. Here is a link to the belt you need:

We were able to get in touch with the Dyson support people and they told us this model doesn't have a clutch in the roller bar. The support person helped us walk through looking at the vacuum and it turns out the belt was stripped and they are sending us a new replacement belt. Case Solved!!

Remove the bottom cover plate and rotate the brush by hand. Look for things that make noise like stones caught in the brush path, bad brush bearings, bad drive belt.
