SOURCE: Using non-OEM ink

There are epson ink compatible cartridges in the market that are less expensive but have good quality. Please look for other compatible brands which good quality guaranteed, try those compatible brands which are more popular.

SOURCE: error msg "installed ink cartridge cannot be recognized"

With refilled cartridges, this is usually due to a faulty "reset" of the chip. Simply reset it again and it will usually be OK. If you don't have a chip resetter, buy one very cheaply on E-Bay.

My mothers lexmark needed a color printer cartridge change. I changed the cartridge with a lexmark color cartridge although i changed it the color indicator has an error message just keeps blinking. The...

Hi Judy

First thought normally pretty good indicator is ...I wonder if it is the black cartridge causing the error appearing on colour

and my second

Are both cartridges OEM? , ones that are not tend to say "for use in lexmark" but genuinne brandname expensive cartridges(carts) will show the Logo, some look alikes fool some and cause many issues with inkjets hence why it is the first thing us tecos check and the most common reason for problems in inkjets.. please ensure both are gen Original equipment manufactured(OEM) and also ensure you did take the tape off the contacts on the cartridge before you stuck it in, alright so...

Asumin we have 2 OEM carts and the error you are seeing is the ! and the colour balls only lit up on the printer and the other one with colour and a black light is off, then we can only have 2 issues, its the carts or the contacts, I take it that you changed the colour cart twice with OEM ones, so we can rule that out, so we have black cartridge or the contacts.

So I think we need to clean the gold contacts on both carts with a slightly damp lint free somethin and the corresponding contacts in the printer that they connect to when you insert them..

If that fails then I try a OEM black and if that fails or even before I would bother, I'd buy her a new one. I saw Epson selling remade whole inkjets with ink last week for 19 ozzy bucks, makes me wonder why we even bother fixing them as makers sell them for little just so you use their kinda ink so if it aint simple with inkjets they are write offs as expense to repair ismt ecomical, many brands dont even make parts for their range anymore if it brakes under warranty the just replace.

Most times problems like yours is caused by the carts not the printer, I get highly suss of any inkjet fault until I know new real supplies installed as it 99 % chance if any non gen inks are fitted it ends up being them darn things causin the issue.

I have seen dirty contacts, I have seen customer thinking they have real carts when in fact they dont, I have seen new OEM carts being old stock and the contacts are failing even thought they are new, they tend to get black spots on the gold contacts I think from enviroment or time. I have seen black faulty carts appearing as colour error lights, I have seen people reading the error wrong too, gezz I go to calls because they arnt plugin the darn thing in, but if your getting error lights we can rule that out;)

Sorry for the delay Judy, I been out the middle of nowhere fixing stuff and just got back, let me know if you need. Cheers

Steve

Replace ink cartridge

Took printer back- power up and take all carts out in sequence that would not register, then put them back in sequence- works fine now! At one time you could not do this with Epsons but it seems you can do so now. Printer happy- me happy- £50 worse off as bought another set of ink carts so I won't get caught out again with no ink. However given one black cart for my trouble so happy again.

Cx5500 all in one and use T0731-4 ink cartridges

If you are using a compatible cart and the printer has twice reported the cart as empty when they are new, chances are there is a problem with the printer. You can buy a chip reseter off ebay for a couple of bucks and try resetting the cart. If the machine still reports the cart is empty you either have dodgy chips on your carts or the printer is having problems reading the chip, This could be caused by a bent pin/contact in the print head cartridge receiver.

Printer says "Install ink cartridges correctly and then hit ok"

Try putting genuine ink it. If it still refuses to recognise the carts then it need to go back to Epson for a warranty repair. As an Epson eng 90% of the time, rubbish compatible cartridges are the source of such issues. They can even make the printer stop recognising genuine carts.

Do not mention to Epson that you used compatibles or they may refuse the warranty repair.
