There is no small hole to put a paperclip into to eject it.
Im a dell tech, and i hate those cdrom styles, but, that is what the consumer wants, so we make them. Try starting the machine, then press F2 to enter the BIOS. once in the bios, press the eject button. listen for any noises, (an attempt to eject). if you hear a sound, it means the drive should be capable of ejecting the disc, and perhaps the disc has not seated correctly. If the disc will not eject, you must contact Dell. This is from the DELL dcse site: "

If I knew I had to perform an open heart surgery to remove a food morsel I choked on, I wouldn't have bought Dell XPS
On my Dell XPS M1530 the DVD was stuck. I used the credit card in the slot to help it come out and it worked. Given the alternative of major surgery I was willing to take the risk of damaging the drive.

I have a Dell XPS with Windows Vista. I shut down the computer without ejecting a CD and when I restarted the computer would not boot up. The CD would not eject from the touch screen button and there is no 'pin hole emergency eject' mechanisim. I finally got it to eject by
1. Restart the computer and press F12
2. Select the last option for the Diagnostic partition
3. Use the arrow key to go to the CDROM menu
4. Press to test and go through each test, if it tells you you need to put in another CD, yes or no, choose no.
5..The self test will eject the CD
That model does not have a hole, as it is a different design of drive.
Discussion of possible methods to try, besides disassembling entire machine to take it apart.

I gently hit the top of the computer above where the CD's/DVD's go in, and it opened. Then I took a canister of air and blew the dust out. Works like new. I'm surprised a Dell tech didn't think to mention this. *eyes roll*

I have 4 years old iMac with slot type DVD drive running exclusively MS Windows. Everything was fine until I have installed Windows 10 Build 1022. DVD eject function stopped working even know it did work fine with the previous builds. One thing is working for me, I restart the computer and hold F 12, then the DVD ejects
