This is fairly easy. Click on the button at the top of the hand above the cannister. It's a purple button and the handle faces the front and says Dyson on it. This separate the cannister from the body.
Next, hold the now full cannister above a trash can and click on the red button which was below the purple button (but hidden when it was attached).
Where the hose plugs into the canister,just above it should be a button that you push in to lift the top back. You did not put what the model # was,so its not easy to find things without the model #.
Below is the manual for model# ep3005t, but once your at the site you can get the right one. The manual is a pdf file, most all are,so you need adobe reader to view the manual,also I am putting the link for the reader,it is free.
