Hi. I have an 18 year old hotpoint dishwasher that works fine, but I'd like to replace the racks. I can't find the serial number.

There should be an upper spray arm to wash the upper rack, it may be stuck. Look at its position, run the machine a few seconds and see if it moved. The spray nozzles on the arm often get clogged with food particles. the pipe feeding the spray arm has to extend when you pull the rack out and retracts when you push it in. Make sure it works properly and has not disconnected.

Check and see if during the heating cycle there is voltage to the element. If not, you will need to replace the control board/module. from serial number 41011 part no is c00143209, to serial no 41011 part no is c00143207

well models and serial numbers are all well and good but there can be no help until you tell us what make it is

The manufacture date is determined by the serial number. GE manufactures Hotpoint, so the following link explains how to determine the date code:

The date of manufacture is determined by the first two LETTERS in the serial number. The first letter represents the MONTH, the second letter represents the YEAR. So, according to the serial number you provided, your dishwasher was manufactured in July of either 1985, 1997, or 2009. If this is a fairly recent model, but not new, I would assume your dishwasher was manufactured in 1997.

Clearly a design or manufacturing flaw. I have the same model and the rack is disintegrating after 6 years. I believe it is a manufacturing flaw. Our previous dishwasher rack lasted over 20 years in the same conditions. Same construction, vinyl covered steel. New upper and lower racks cost over 200.00 and there is no guarantee that this won't happen every six years. I recommend a new non-Maytag dishwasher as soon as you can. Meanwhile, limp along with the defective racks.
