SOURCE: Honeywell HE440A steam power humidifier

Honeywell has had lots of problems with this humidifier. They are coming out with a completely redesigned steam humidifier that will be available in a month or two. If you know who installed it (through equipment stickers and such) you can probably get them to swap your old trouble prone unit for the new design for just the labor. If they won't, then push them to talk with their Honeywell distributor about it.

The problem is most likely a stuck float in the humidifier. There are two floats that run up and down. One that tells it when to add water, and one that is a safety. They both tend to get stuck with mineral deposits.

You can fix it by unplugging the humidifier, turning off the water, draining the pan (unscrew the drain on the bottom a few turns), disconnecting the water lines and wires (2 molded plugs and 2 screw terminals-don't worry about if they get swapped). There should be a couple of screws that lock it into the ductwork such that when you remove the screws you can pull the whole unit out to see inside the water tank. Then just clean everything out well and put it back together in the same order.

You really do want Honeywell to get you a new humidifier though.

Yes you will want the out door sensor. The reason why is it is going to read the average temp outside and will adjust what you hum is producing due to the temp outside, that is so you dont cause condensation on your window. You can run it in manuel or auto but i would strongly reccomend to run it in auto.

Heater Element for Hunter Niteglo Humidifier is not working

Heating elements are pretty reliable. They usually have a thermal fuse or thermostat that will open before ruining the element. If your handy with a multimeter, you can check the continuity of the parts and the element itself.

True Steam Direct Injection Model # HM506 service light blinks 6 times before remaining a solid color. What does that mean? I realise that the unit is detecting a system fault, would just like to know...

Remove and clean the water level sensor and see if this resolves your error. If cleaning doesn't do it, check the connector for buildup. If neither of the above works, you'll need to order a new sensor - I've gone through two in four years as the heat appears to crack the plastic housing, allowing water to wick up between the plastic and the contact, ultimately shorting it.

Humidistat installation question

I suppose you are looking at the do-it-yourself model. Depending on the wire that is run up to you Regular Thermostat from your furnace. You may have to run a seperate line for the Humidistat. A digital thermostat that does Humidity and Temperature is recommended. Or you could just place a Humidistat near the furnace room. A wiring diagram will come with the Humidifier discribing the different ways to wire it.
