It may refer to the ink "overflow" box. When your printer cycles, it will dump a bit of ink which goes into a collection box. Most likely, that box is full and needs to be emptied, replaced, or whatever.

SOURCE: mfc 440cn printer says 'ink empty' to new full ink cartridge

The usual obvious fix is to buy a new catridge, insert, power off machine, then switch back on to reset any sensors. But if the circuitry on the machine itself is faulty it wont fix it.

I used to own an MFC 260C. It had a perfectly good full ink catridge in it, that was working fine, until...it suddenly did not recognise the cartridge anymore.

I pulled the machine apart and found that 2 of the 4 sensors on the cct board at the back of the cartridge housing were loose. These sensors pass light through the exposed part of the cartridge to see if ink is there. So if these are faulty, you will never clear the "No Cartridge" or "Ink Empty..." or "Near Empty Ink ..." messages on the MFC260C and prbably other similar printers in the MFC range.

Why did they fail? Because the soldering on these sensors was poor quality.

I would never buy another Brother machine because of this, also because they design the machine to be totally useless unless all the ink ccartridges are full. Shame on you Brother, and kiss my *** for the $160 pile of junk I bought off you that was only on its second batch of cartridges (ie very little use)

I have a brother J140 W i followed your instructions to clear purge full ink box and it worked,I thought great,But now when i print the black ink goes into the yellow when I do a test I have 2 black i cyan...

Did you actually change any parts or just reset a warning? If you were getting a full error, chances are the purge system was full and needs to be changed. Likely what the problem you are having is that ink from the purge system is backing up and polluting your print heads.

How to solve the problem of see troubleshooting and routine maintence chapter in users guide in .it unable 4f in dcp-j140w wifi brother printer

A print unable message in a Brother inkjet usually means the waste ink chamber is full. This can be fixed by removing the waste bottle, cleaning and drying the pads inside, then reassembling the machine and resetting the purge counter. Most of the instructions for this can be found on u-tube. Please note it is a messy job and many folk just replace the machine.

My brother DCP-J140W printer ink box full .. please help how to fix it.

The Brother manual says that you are required to replace the ink absorber box at a Brother Service Center. This is not an item covered by warranty.

How to change the ink box

Sir/Madam

The ink absorber box or flushing box is full. These components are periodic maintenance items that may require replacement after a period of time to ensure optimum performance from your Brother machine. Because these components are periodic maintenance items, the replacement is not covered under the warranty. The need to replace these items and the time period before replacement is dependent on the number of purges and flushes required to clean the ink system. These boxes acquire amounts of ink during the different purging and flushing operations. The number of times a machine purges and flushes for cleaning varies depending on different situations. For example, frequently powering the machine on and off will cause numerous cleaning cycles since the machine automatically cleans upon power up. The use of non-Brother ink may cause frequent cleanings because non-Brother ink could cause poor print quality which is resolved by cleaning. The more cleaning the machine requires the faster these boxes will fill up.

Other reasons for cleaning are:
  1. The machine automatically cleans after clearing a printer jam.
  2. The machine automatically cleans itself after sitting idle for more than 45 days (infrequent use).
  3. The machine automatically cleans itself after the ink cartridges have been replaced 12 times.
