If the camera has been sitting around I would suggest that the battery is dead and will not charge because its been not charged in a long time. Sitting without being charged will kill a battery.

How to Reset Tom Tom One GPS

There are two methods depending on which version of the Tom Tom One you have (there are a few versions of the One).

Method 1
  1. Check that the battery is charged properly.
Charge your device for at least 2 hours before trying to turn it on again. Make sure the charging light on your device is on.

  2. Reset your device.
Press and hold the On/Off button until your device comes on - shuts off and restarts. This can take more than fifteen seconds.

Method 2

Check the bottom of the unit to see if it has a Reset button which is recessed into a hole in the casing like this.

If so follow this procedure;

  1. Check that the battery is charged properly.
Charge your device for at least 2 hours before trying to turn it on again. Make sure the charging light on your device is on.

  2. Remove the SD card
If your device uses an SD card, remove it.

  3. Reset your device.
Use a straightened paper clip, or something similar, to push the reset button for 15 seconds.

The blue light on the charger will not light up anymore and my guess is that it's broken, but it hasn't even been a year yet.

The most likely scenario is that you need a new battery. Before making that decision you should run some diagnostic tests. It's possible that the battery has completely discharged and is struggling to begin charging again. Try some of these approaches.

1. Download and install BatteryMon 2.1 from this site: http://www.passmark.com/products/batmon.htm

2. Run BatteryMon.

3. Look to see if BatteryMon can recognize your battery and if the battery is charging.

4. If the battery cannot be recognized you should try plugging and unplugging the battery to see if you can get BatteryMon to recognize the battery. If you have no success skip to step 6.

5. If the battery is recognized but won't charge, then you should shutdown Windows with the battery installed and try and charge the battery with the computer off but plugged in. If you still don't see a solid light indicating the battery is charging, take the battery out and plug it back in; several times if necessary.

6. If you still have no success try this similar method:
6a. With the computer powered off remove the battery.
6b. Power it on and leave it for a couple of minutes until it fully boots up.
6c. Carefully slide the battery back into the computer and leave it on for 10 minutes.
6d. If you're lucky the battery should now start to charge (if it does leave it charging for at least 3-4 hours straight and you should be back in business).
6e. Repeat this process several times.

7. One last method to try is the freeze method.

7a. Take the battery out and put it in a zip lock bag. Remove ALL of the air out and seal it.
7b. Place it in the freezer for 2-6 hours and take it out.
7c. Place the battery in the laptop and connect the charging cable while the laptop is OFF. Wipe all condensation off the battery as it forms with a paper towel.
If all goes well, you should be able to bring the battery back to life. This usually happens when you let the battery reach 0% and don't charge it for an extended period of time.

Hopefully one of these approaches will cause your battery to begin charging.
Good luck and thanks for using FixYa.

Nuvi 760 will not take charge

I don't know which of the three ways you're trying to charge - car cradle, via USB cable to a computer or via accessory AC adapter. An 18 month old 760 should still have a good battery.

If you are using your car cradle to charge consistently, use one of the other methods and allow the 760 to charge for 8 hours. Use of the car cradle can cause the 760 to stop taking a charge after a while, and switching to one of the other methods should "refresh" the internal battery. Since the AC adapter wasn't included in the box, the USB cable method is likely your only other choice. While connected to your computer, you should download & update the 760's firmware. It's fast and free - and could solve other potential issues. Get the WebUpdater software direct from Garmin.

It is also possible that the fuse in the cigar lighter plug has opened. Disassemble the the plug to check for and replace a blown fuse.

If unable to get the 760 to accept a charge, you might need to replace the battery. There are several sources for batteries - but a free call to Garmin Support should be your first move.

?how do I charge the battery

Hello,

You use one of two methods
Method 1
1. Install the battery in its compartment.
2. Plug the AC adapter

The battery will start charging, and the status light for the battery will appear amber. The light will remain amber as long as the battery is not fully charged. When the cahrge is completed, the light will turn green.

Of course, if your are using your computer while battery is being charged, it will take three to four times longer to complete the charge.

Method 2

Toshiba sells battery chargers which you can use to charge a battery outside of the computer.

Hope it helps.

Nuvi 650

Hello Grumpa1350,

There are several possible reasons why a GPS unit might not turn on. For example, there could be something wrong with the charger such as a blown fuse, bad power adapter, or defective cable connection. The internal battery inside of the GPS also might be defective or worn-out. Or, worse yet, the unit may have a more serious hardware fault.

You don't say how you are charging the unit. I'd recommend trying a different charge method. The GPS can be charged one of three ways: connection to you car via the automobile power cord, connection to your computer via a USB cable, or charging from a wall outlet using an optional AC adapter. If you are charging the unit in your car, try connecting it to your computer (or vice versa). If the GPS turns on after being charged using one method but not the other, then that pretty much tells you that the problem is with the cable or adapter being used for charging.

The Garmin NUVI 650 does not contain an internal fuse, but there is a common 3 amp fast-blow fuse located in the vehicle power cord. If you find that the problem happens when trying to charge the unit in your vehicle, then you should change this fuse and see if that corrects the issue. The fuse can be replaced by unscrewing the black round piece at the end of the cigarette lighter plug.

If the unit does not turn on regardless of what charge method you use, then the fault is likely with the GPS itself. Either the internal battery would need to be replaced or the unit would need to be serviced to correct whatever hardware fault is causing the problem.

I would recommend you contact the manufacturer before you attempt to open up the unit. Opening the case of the GPS may void your manufacturer's warranty (if the unit is still under warranty).

Best regards,
Ken

WILL NOT TURN ON

Hello LUCKYPURPLE,

The problem could be either with the charger, the battery inside of the GPS, or could be a more serious hardware failure.

You don't mention what method you are using to charge the GPS. Most GPS units can be charged three different ways: connection to the cigarette lighter / accessory jack in your automobile, connection to your computer via a USB cable, or from an electrical outlet using an AC adapter. To determine if the charger is at fault, try charging the unit using a different method. For example, if the GPS turns on after charging in your vehicle but not after connection to your computer, the problem likely lies with the USB cable or port.

If the unit does not turn on regardless of what method you use to charge it, then you likely either need to replace the internal battery or have the unit serviced by a knowledgeable technician.

Best regards,
Ken
