190c 54 inch deck bought in 2006. Changed fuel filter, fuel pump and vacuum hose, new gas, no leaks, cleaned gas cap breather vent, no obstructions in fuel line. Filter used to run dry in 1/2 hour

Filter used to refill when mower sits for several hours. Gradually, took more time to refill and then run grew shorter and shorter. Now filter doesn't refill with gas no matter how long it sits.

SOURCE: New MasterCut mower runs erratic & gasoline leak around fuel cap.

as it is a new machine if it has not been p.d.id by dealer it may be that some test fuel residue is in carburettor which is causing this, you need do drain of carburettor of all fuel, remove bowl and spray clean useing either air or carb cleaner spray(should get from local autoparts store) note try to spray up centre of carb as may be a jet up there as well, refitt bowl and make sure you use fresh fuel this should solve problem, with unstable running fuel may be finding a way back through breather at carb with the vibration and may be cured after you have done carb

SOURCE: Hello I have a Craftsman eager 1 Lawn Mower model

The breather hose has nothing to do with it not starting. It starts when you prime the carb and dies when that gas is used up. Being a Tecumseh. it's most likely the bowl nut/jet stopped up. Unscrew the bowl nut and clean it. Look cery carefully at the top of the threads. There is probably a very small hole there also and it will not run if it is not open.

SOURCE: My John Deere stx46 riding

Try loosening the gas cap a little...... there is a normally a small breather hole in the top or underside just above the seal which allows a small amount of air to enter into the fuel tank. Sometimes this breather hole gets clogged..... stopping air from entering into the fuel tank as fuel is used. Eventualy enough vacume pressure accumulates inside he tank causing a vapor lock. If you loosen your fuel cap slightly.... this should prevent the problem your experiencing. If it does... try soaking cap in deisel fuel or heating oil overnight, remove and allow to dry prior to re-installing. If the problem persists after a good soak, only option is to replace fuel cap. GOOD LUCK!

My cub cadet modle LT1045 doesn't seem to be getting gas. The fuel filter looks clean. If I spray gas directly into the carb it runs fine but as soon as I stop it dies.

Confirm that the choke is closing completely., Check that the fuel pick up hose does not have a air leak. Confirm that the vent hole in fuel cap is not plugged.(common problem)
Remove fuel line hose to carburetor catching fuel output in a suitable container crank engine and confirm fuel pump is working.
Remove fuel bowl and confirm needle valve is not stuck closed.

Hope this helps?

Wont take gas

General advice:I understand as a no fuel condition
1Immo condition,bad key,chip,antenna ring ignition barell
2Fuel pump related:bad fuse/relay,pump malfunction,cloged filter.
3Fuel lines cloged/fuel breather/tank cap cloged (vacuuming the tank, must open to get air, then clean the breathers/cap)
3Dumb guess:no gas in the tank(!?)
Cheers,hope u deal it,share the solution.

hi there

if you had the carby off and cleaned it out , was the fuel flow from tank to fuel pump ( if it has one ) good , and was the output from pump to carb good on cranking?

if so and the breather in cap is venting , it could be that the governor needs adjusting, possibly have got a spring in the incorrect position and there is no binding , pay to check , carby main jet closly for any obstruction. check the fuel level and float hieght .

most times hunt / surge is caused by obstruction to fuel flow , or governor

try holding the governor in a fixed position if hunt / surge still apparent - carby is causing fault
but if not governor setup is causing problem

My 95 7.3 turbo runs and idels good no miss but something is holdeing it back when u push the gas I have changed the fule filter and air

Here is what my Haynes Diesel Engine Repair Manual says for a noticeable lack of power, which is what you are describing.
1. Blocked air intake
2.Incorrectly adjusted timing
3.Blocked or damaged exhaust system
4.Obstruction in fuel filter
5.Blocked fuel tank vacuum vent in fuel cap
6.Insufficient fuel supply from tank to injector pump
7.Obstruction in fuel tank filter
8. Pinched or restricted fuel return line
9. Incorrect or contaminated fuel
10.External compression leaks ( glow plugs or injectors)
11. Obstruction in injector nozzles
12.Low compression
This book has an excellent diagnosis and repair section for your engine. It's Haynes part #10330 and costs about $20. Hope this helps.

I have 120000 model engine on a troybuilt 566 self propelled mower. The engine will start and run for about 3-4 seconds and die. I have changed the spark plug, air filter, cleaned the fuel line, and...

You have done the correct things. This is definetely a problem with the fuel supply. Here are some other things to check.

1. Loosen the gas cap to ensure you don't have a vacuum in the tank. If you have a vacuum in the tank, it can prevent fuel from flowing to the carb. This is an easy thing to check, typically the engine will run for longer than 3-4 seconds when first started, but when restarted I have seen short run times like this. There should be a vent hole on the gas cap to prevent this from happening. If this is the problem clean the vent hole or get a new cap.

2. I don't know if this engine has a fuel pump, but the troubleshooting process is the same. Take off the hose to the carb and make sure you have fuel flow to the carb (use gravity if it doesn't have a fuel pump, or crank the engine if it does). If you have fuel, then the problem is in the carb (probably a stuck needle in the bowl assembly). Disassemble the carb bowl and clean the needle and seat with carb cleaner.

3. If you are not getting fuel through the hose to the carb, then you have a bad fuel pump or a plugged line.
