Message, fan locked on optoma pro 160s projector and projector shuts down. Can anyone tell me what I can do. Now we can't even get the tv to come back on.

Hi,

Make sure that the resolution shown by the projector matches with that of the computer resolution. Many projectors does it automatically.
But if there exists a problem in resolution matching, there is a chance of getting partial picture. So better check that the resolution shown by the projector matches with that of the computer.

Also, the pixel may be degraded due to,

• Their susceptibility to heat; the organic compounds used in LCD filters - in particular the blue - can be broken down by excess heat, resulting in a degradation of image quality.

• "Dead Pixels"; pixels can become permanently on or permanently off, and while this is barely noticeable with one dead pixel, the presence of multiple dead pixels can be a irritation.

Hi, I'm not sure if it's the same problem I had..
I had it on picture mute, for maybe 15 mins, which may not have been a good idea. While it was muted, it made a sparking sound, and then a very loud grinding noise. When turned off, the lound noise stops, and the fan continues as usual for about a minute. As soon as it's turned back on, the grinding noise is back. But the logo seemed to display ok.

I took it in for repairs, and they said they needed to replace the color wheel to fix the problem.

Set the projector to "high altitude mode." It will be noisier, but won't overheat. I wonder whether using one of those $10-$20 laptop coolers underneath it might be a quieter solution.

Most projectors have air filters. Yours may need to be removed and cleaned. No air flow = overheat.

It's not a short, the blub is near the end of it's life ~ the optoma is designed to detect when the blub is about to blow and shuts itself down. Turning the projector upside down or right side up usually only gives you a brief reprieve (some have reported a modest amount of extra time gained) on the blub ~ but in the end it's on it's way out and the projector will shut down again.
