Husqvarna lawn tractor YTH22V46 22 hp with hydrostatic drive. It was running fine both in forwards and reverse. Today when I started it, it would go in reverse, but not forward.

It seems like a spring or something may have broken or come off on the foot pedal. There is no tension resistance when pushing it forwards and it just bottoms out all the way forwards and the tractor does not move.

On mine, which is a different model, it gets stuck like this when it is especially dirty. Start where the pedal is attached to the rod. I can see mine if I open the hood and look down. Make sure everything is free of debris and follow the rod all the way back to make sure everything is clear. Then do the same with the brake pedal. Works on mine every time!

Check the rod that attaches to the transmission. The rod is attached via a spring clip.

SOURCE: JD 855 the idle spring broke and th hydrostatic

Yes there is a safety switch. And this safety switch has to be engaged. If its not engaged then the JD tractor will not start. On JD 855 the safty switch is located under the seat, There is a rod that must be depressed before engage Somehow that rod is bent or its not pressing the switch to the point that the seat would not fully engage the safty switch. In some cases the switch itself is faulty. It has to be checked . Thanks. keep updated for any more query.you can rate this solution and show your appreciation.

Lawn tractor won't go forward or reverse

If the engine is running normally and the drive belt between the engine and the transmission is in good shape, most likely you have a failed hydrostatic transmission.

I have 2001 Husqvarna lawn tractor model YTH1746 wnt go into gear

those fluid drive transmissions fail on quite a few brands as they all use the same ones....replace the trans...they are expensive but still cheaper than a new mower.

POWER TRAIN

No, It sounds like you are low on oil. there is a fill cap on there somewhere, might be a bolt, plug, but you can check it and fill it hyd oil. I had an old Wheelhorse, never had a problem with the hydrostat, worked great. Check it out, hope this helps.

Lawn mower was working fine now it will go into

  • check the belt - it could have broken or come off the pulley
  • tension spring may have broken or come off
  • after that - it could be any linkage from the shifter lever to the lever on the transmission
  • worse case your hydrostatic transmission failed, which is unlikely

Transmission trouble. Engine runs fine. Will not go forward or reverse.

I presume that this is a hydrostatic transmission. There is probably a lever/rod on the back of the machine that, when pulled, allows the unit to be pushed or pulled. That lever, when pulled out, will prevent the mower from moving under it's own power.
