Probably will freeze as fridge settings get colder with the lower numbers
1 is close to freezing and 4 is probably where a fridge setting should be

  • Bill Boyd Dec 18, 2016

sorry but I have to disagree here
fridge settings are as I state because the lower the number the greater the spring tension on the diaphragm on the thermostat so it takes longer for the thermostat to switch the compressor off so the colder it gets
freezer settings are as you state and you are right the setting for the fridge should be around the center numbers

Other way around Bill in MOST cases. 1 is warmest, 9 is coldest.

Most refrigerator temperature settings are controlled with a dial or slider. They are sometimes labeled 1 through 5 or 1 through 9. If you are not sure what to set it to, then set it somewhere in the middle. If the dial is numbered 1 to 5 set it on 3, if the dial is numbered 1 to 9, then set at 4. USUALLY the higher the number on the temp control dial, the colder the temperature your refrigerator will get. If your drinks and food are not as cold as you like, set the temperature dial up one number higher. If it is at 3 and you want your food colder, set it to 4 and test 12-24 hours later to see if your food is at the temperature you need.

Everything on top shelf of fridge freezes even on lowest temperature

you should send model number,if you have a damper control in your model most likely this is the problem, all that happens is cold air blows over from the freezer from the evaporator fan and blows through the top section of the fridge side,if the damper door isn't closing all the way it will cause freezing in the fridge section.

I have a Norcold n611 fridge gets too cold and freezes even on lowest setting.

The temperature control thermostat, alson known as the colds control thermostat has gone bad and basically isn't converting electrical/temperature signal properly and needs to be replaced.

Fridge keeps freezing food

I have a 6 year old Kenmore Elite top freezer.. I have been dissapointed from day one with this fridge.. the fridge has air vents all over the inside of the fridge. We find that if one of these vents have anything in front of it that something somewhere else in the fridge will freeze. Its very frustrating.. I find that I loose allot of fridge space because I am always juggling space to make sure that these vents are always open... very bad design.. sounded like a good idea at the time.. but never again..

Hi. The fridge part of my fridge freezer model HNMF2805AL80 is freezing my food , it is set at its lowest setting

My HNMF2805AL80 did same. Replaced control moduile - still freezing. Have just replaced fridge temperature sensor. Part No. 97061619. Trouble is you have to cut into insulation at back of fridge to replace. I just put sensor inside fridge at back - so far so good, will let you know.

Temperature too cold even when on lowest

The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent(damper) between the freezer and fridge. The fan in the freezer blows air through it. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the fridge temp ..

Fridge keeps freezing everything!

you need a damper door and thermostat asm. the door that allows the cool air in is just staying open that is air from freezer and if open all the time will cause your freezing temp in refrig section you can take some tape and cover 3/4 of the grill where you feel air coming out in the frig section to help slow the air it is in the top left hand corner in the back you will feel air. should get you until you can get a repair man.

Refrigerator freezes everything even on the lowest setting

Is everything really frozen or just the top shelf stuff? You may have a thermistor (temp sensor) problem if the compressor just runs and runs and runs all the time. Take a glass of water and place a thermometer in it for about 3 hours then take a temp. reading. That will let you know what the real temps are. See if you can cause the compressor to kick off and on by changing the temp settings (go to real low for about 5 minutes then back up to high). Let us know what happens.
