2008 Yamaha VX110 Deluxe will not go past 35 MPH in the water it's like it's restricted

Water I your oil could be from sitting or condastion , are you using a cheep or different typ of oil

vx110 , are all cylinders working ?? could be plugs, injecters, or worse the valves aresticking open ! pressure drop test by dealer !! compression test also ! clean fuel ??

Nevermind those other answers, if its running on all 4the cylinders but just real sluggish and missing top speed then listen up, let's first rule out the possibility of a damaged impeller, now locate your airfilter box and remove the filter, just throw it away because last I checked dirt really doesn't settle on top of water, now locate your throttle body and remove the intake tube from it, now take out the 4 bolts that hold it on and find your flame arrestor element. I've dealt with this problem many times only to find out that the geniuses at Yamaha had installed this screen right after the butterfly which accumulates airfilter material and clogs

Have you done a compression test on all cylinders? My guess is you have a dead cylinder (no oil to one or more cylinders causing loss of power). If the compression test passes (all cylinders equal and higher than 100-110 psi) you have a restricted exhaust from a failed catalytic converter that has broken apart.

I dont know the answer but my vx deluxe is doing the same thing. Not as bad as yours but 4k rpm idle.....ANyone?
