I have a 95 Dodge stratus..2.4 L. The past week it was having trouble starting. After turning key off then on..3..sometimes 4.. it would start right up. Next morning had to do same thing. Yesterday I took...

Yes, it has to do with the ignition switch. but just as possible could be a battery connection from the battery to the switch. So, sometimes turning key to ON causes no dash lights or warning lights to come on?
That sounds like a bad switch, or more likely, a bad battery connection or a bad connection between the battery and the switch. First thing to do is check the charge of the battery, it must register at least 12 volts. 12.6 volts is the ideal for a good and fully charged battery. Clean and tighten all battery connections.

Sometimes when you have a poor connection, from looseness to corrosion, and you turn key and see all warning lights and gauges come on, and then turn key to start and everything goes black...that can happen because the power surge causes the bad connection to come apart. So check for loose or corroded connections.

What is the knob on the back used for?

Good morning, afternoon, evening or night; whatever time of day you are viewing this. Thank you for choosing FixYa to answer your question. You want to know what the knob on the back is used for? I believe that's the weather band fine tuning knob. This is used for switching between weather radio frequency channels (e.g. 162.400 MHz or 162.550 MHz). Use this to switch to a weather channel that is in your listening area. I hope this answers your question and thank you for choosing FixYa as your one-stop solution spot for all of your problems. It has a switch that changes it from 2 hi to 4hi & 4lo. The problem is that it doesnt shift into 4 wheel drive.

Even though the electrical switches are working, the vacuum lines may be the source of the trouble. Inspect all vacuum hoses. Look for loose connections, broken t fittings, weathered or mushy hoses, There is a vacuum operated switch under the vehicle that engages the front axle. Locate this switch and make sure the vacuum line is still connected at both ends. This hose is bad about coming loose.
