You could use an applique (satin) stitch freehand on your machine. But, it takes some practice with steady hands to get it to look nice.

In the video, she uses a heat bonded stabilizer. If you don't use a bonded stabilizer, you'd want to put the fabric and stabilizer in a hoop to keep the fabric tight. If you are going to manipulate the fabric manually, you also would drop the feed dogs.

Be sure to install a brand new sharp needle before sewing. Check that the needle, thread, and fabric are compatible. An embroidery needle or top stitch needle may help.

When threading the top thread, ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot before threading to insure the thread seats in the tension disk.

Im trying to sew letters on thin fabric and lace. I think the grip is to ruff for the fabric. how do i fix this?

you will need to have stabiliser behind the fabric to give it stability for any type of machine embroidery.

Look for a product called "stitch and tear" or "solvy" which washes away in water after you've completed the stitching.

Also, consider using machine embroidery thread for this task, its silky and gives a lovely sheen.

I've always used an embroidery hoop to hold the layers all together for monogramming so things don't slip.

I'd suggest you google "machine embroidery" or try www.sewing.about.com and see if there are other machine embroidery tips there.

Monogramming

Hi there!

Bit of a con eh?

Is it the Innov-is 700E ? as featured here?
http://www.brothersew.co.uk/brother-innov-is-700e-embroidery-machine-193.html

Most machines can embroider.
The foot advance claw need to be disengaged, then a frame is needed to hold the material flat.
Select a zig-zag stitch, mark out your pattern and away you go!

Basically filling in your marked design with zig-zag stitch.

If it is the computerised version - ask the store for a demonstration.

Hope this helps, If so , rate as fixya!
if not - ask and I'll do the best I can.

Thanks for using Fixya! (I don't get paid for this you know. I just like helping folk)

PLEASE HELP!!! Pfaff creative 7570 tension problems

Check your bobbin tension also. Embroidery bobbin thread is finer than sewing thread and you may need to make adjustment on the bobbing case by turning the small screw slightly. The type of stabilizer can affect your embroidery. An excellent reference for machine embroidery is Embroidery Machine Essentials by Jeanine Twigg, available on Amazon.
