when engine cool,, spray wd 40 into the switch and work it a dozen or so times and clen it out

2oz oil / 1gal gas is a good rich mix. you can go up to 2oz oil / 1 1/4 gal. gas. Use only good quality oil.
SOURCE: stihl bg 55 blower runs good for 5 min. then loses power
1) carburetor gaskets/diaphragms may need to be replaced
2) ignition coil may be breaking down when hot
3) check compression when cold, then after it stops, when hot
4) could have a vacuum/pressure leak

The pulley the rope goes onto needs to be fully wound against the spring. I usually wind the pulley and hold it with one hand while feeding in the new rope with the other. The pulley may have a cut out on it where you can hook the rope and then wind the pulley. Once the pulley is fully wound by the spring you can hold the end of the extended rope/grip and let it slowly wind back into the recoil assembly.
