Stuck on database refresh

My e260 is stuck on the database refresh screen then the screen goes blank with a bunch of lines. I have reset the device numerous times but always the same outcome. doesn't matter if it connected to the Pc or not. I can't do anything with it.

No I'm not able to transfer files. the PC does not see the device now.
After turning it on it goes directly to the database refresh screen. I am unable to do anything then the screen goes blank with vertical lines and will stay like that until I reset it again.

1. Try going into recovery mode (turn off the player, put the hold button towards the earphone jack, turn on and hold record button)
2. Plug in the sansa into the computer
3. Open the device (should be called 16MB)
4. Create a folder in the device called "sansa.fmt"
5. Eject and unplug the device
6. Should reformat and it will start back up

You can try taking out the 4 screws on the back and gently taking the battery out. Just use a toothpick and be gentle with prying it out and then put it back and turn it on. Then make sure all your files are correct type and with no weird symbols that might mess up the player.

My sansa e260 goes black after showing sandisk start up screen and does the same when plugged into a pc. it starts to refresh database and then the screen goes black.

Hi there

When you say the screen goes black even after disconnecting the device from computer it could be an issue with the firmware.
It might need to have updated firmware. To get the updated firmware please go www.sandisk.com.

Where you can get the latest firmware for your model.
*** Make sure when you update the firmware keep the device in MSC mode.

Here is the link for updating the firmware:

Sansa e260 firmware

Mine was a bit more FUBAR I guess. I have a Sansa e260. I had rockbox on it, went to switch back to the firmware. Uninstalled rockbox and on reboot... the e260 was refreshing the database and then came to a frozen green screen.

My e260 was already in MSC mode. I did the steps above but was still stuck.

The solution that worked was one posted by "Slaughter" on anythingbutipod.

The ultimate fix for all e2xx v1 problems - Format, enter recovery mode, downgrade firmware Link (you'll need to format the drive), reinstall newest firmware via newest Sansa Updater, reload tunes.

Sansa e260 freezes up

It's not suppose to say Refresh Database when you connect it to the computer, it's only suppose to say that when you eject it OUT of your computer.

Did you load a massive amount of files during your last sync?

I don't think there's any need in resetting it if it is able to turn off and on. What I recommend doing is formatting it. Remember, formatting the player will cause you to loose ALL your media stored in the device. To format go to "My Computer" > "Sansa e260" right click and go down to format.

If it formats, then good. Turn it on and it should say "Refresh Database". Change the mode of your player to MTP(?) so that it will no longer refresh the database after transferring media(?).

Connect it back to your computer and reload your media onto it that was wiped out during the format. Now disconnect it and see if it works... It should.

If that doesn't work this should do the job for you: http://sandisk.com/Retail/Default.aspx?C...

Always remember to update the firmware on your products, it is a wise idea to do so. (: http://sandisk.com/Retail/Default.aspx?C... < Get updates with that.

Drain the battery if whatever you do don't work. Sometimes removing the battery for a few seconds on putting it back in works.

If you think you attacked this problem from every angle and still no luck. Contact sandisk: [email protected] Give them some time, their swamped with emails at the moment.

MP3 not being recognized by computer

My opinion.
No one here seems to understand the question...unless it's just me.
Not being recognized by computer means you should not be able to disconnect the device safely. Am I right?
I cannot seem to disconnect the device safely, which means that the refresh database option will not display and do so!
