Question about Kenmore Freezers

My upright Kenmore Elite freezer, bought in 2009, was set at -18 and was freezer-burning things, so I tried to turn it up. It is now showing 0F and won;t come back on. Any suggestions?

To make ti warmer the setting numbers decrease in size
for example ----18 may be 6 and -10 would be 4

The correct temperature for a deep freeze is -18C or 0F.

I bought a used Kenmore elite upright freezer model 253.26072100. Bought a new battery and plugged freezer in then installed the battery and nothing on the temperature control panel lights up at all.

Hello Michael - Sounds like the temperature control was accidently turned OFF. When this occurs the temperature control turns off the compressor, but does not disconnect the power to the light bulb or other electronics. Let's try activating the freezer by pressing the UP arrow until display shows "4" or desired setting. Allow 24 hours for temperature to stabilize. For future reference you can lock the control to keep from accidently changing the temperature setting. I ask that you please follow up with a comment on the post, at your convenience, to advise if further troubleshooting is needed or if the unit's status has changed successfully. Thank you.

freezers should be -18/20C to keep beef for 12 months,use a freezer guage in centre of freezer,that way you wont get ice bricks instead of ice cream.....test after 24 hours of setting....

Check these two things first. 1. Is there a thick frost buildup on the back panel at the bottom half of the freezer? 2. Do you hear the fan running inside the freezer? Let me know what you find.
