The brushes have stopped working on my DC44

Hello, this is Ava with Think Crucial.

There are a number of reasons why your brush roller has stopped moving. General maintenance to your vacuum is crucial and will help it work at peak performance.

First things first lets focus on the brush roller. Unplug the vacuum and turn it on its side. Look for any noticeable clumps of debris or hair strands that may be caught in the brush roller. Remove these obstructions, probably best to do so with a scissor if it's hair or long pieces of carpet fibers. After removing the debris try manually rotating the brush roller to uncover other hidden clogs. Another thing to take note of is the condition of the bristles on the roll itself. Are they loose or worn down? These are signs that your brush roller is in need of replacing.

While checking out your brush roll you might as well take a look at your vacuums belt. Your belt should be replaced about every three months. After regular usage, the belt will stretch out, lessening the tension on the brush roller. Lesser tension diminishes the brush roller's turn rate and speed. If the belt feels loose then it certainly is affecting your vacuums suction as well as your brush roll not moving at all.

Can you buy the head off of dyson fluffy and will it fit the dyson 35?

Hi, it's Allan at Dyson.

The soft roller attachment is only for use on selected V6 machines. This unfortunately means that previous models such as the DC35 and DC44 are not compatible.

If you have any other questions feel free to give Dyson Helpline a call on 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA), 0800 298 0298 (UK).

I hope this helps.

Should a Dyson 45 battery work on a Dyson 44 motor head?

The listings on 3rd party batteries like at NewEgg (
HQRP Battery for Dyson DC31 DC34 DC35 DC44 DC45 DC56 Series plus HQRP... ), Ebay (
NEW DYSON DC44 DC45 VACUUM Battery Type 2000Mah CORDLESS DC34 DC35 4402B ), and others lump the battery for the DC44 and DC45 together, so you're probably fine.

You may want to take the battery to a Batteries Plus or such - sometimes a battery will show voltage just fine, but choke once there's a load on it. They have the gear to tell (same as with car batteries)

Good Luck

Can you wash clear bowl on a dyson dc44

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

We would strongly advise against attempting to wash or submerge your DC44's clear bin, as it contains the wiring which supplies current to your vacuum's wand and motorised floor tool. Any damage caused may not be covered under your Dyson warranty.

Instead, we'd recommend separating the clear bin from the cyclone pack as shown in the image below:

dc91218b-edaf-4d85-baec-d327cc4cbab5.jpg

Once you've removed the clear bin, you can use a damp cloth to remove any dust or debris - always make sure the bin is completely dry before reassembling. You can also use a soft, dry brush to remove any debris from the shroud.

I hope this helps, but if you'd like any further guidance on cleaning or maintaining your DC44, please give our experts a call on 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

How can I get the dog smell out of the canister

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

To help remove any odours from your DC44, we'd recommend giving the filter a wash using cold water without detergent, and allowing this to dry completely for at least 24 hours before replacing it. The correct way to do this is shown in the video below.

You can also remove the clear bin from the cyclone pack, as shown here:

d872419c-9d91-41d0-bf18-3067a9bf7e4f.jpg

This will allow you to wipe any clinging dust particles or residue from the inside of the clear bin with a soft damp cloth. Please ensure the bin is completely dry before reassembling it, and do not attempt to wash or submerge the bin as this could cause damage. You can also use a dry cloth or soft brush to remove any dust or debris from the shroud (the section of the cyclone pack with the small holes in).

This should help, but if you'd like further advice you're welcome to give us a call on 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

Loss of suction

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.
I'm sorry to hear you've had difficulty with your DC44 Animal. It's normal for air to blow out of the back of the machine - this is where the exhaust air is returned to the room after passing through the cyclone pack.
However, if your machine doesn't seem to be picking up as well as usual and you've recently washed the filter, this may be due to a blockage. To check the motorised carbon fibre floor tool, wand and bin inlet for any obstructions, please follow the steps shown in our online Support guide:
http://www.dyson.co.uk/support/dc44/dc44-animal/my-machine-is-not-working/machine-not-sucking-picking-up-as-well-as-usual-dc44/no-resolved-redirect-to-check-the-wand/check-wand
The motorised carbon fibre floor tool is driven by it's own motor, rather than the machine's airflow. If it isn't rotating, the video attached should help you locate anything which could be jamming the brush bar. Make sure you remove any threads or hair from around the brush bar carefully using scissors, taking care to avoid causing any damage to the bristles.
I'm confident this will resolve the issue, but if you would like some further help you can reach the Dyson customer Helpline directly by calling us on 0800 298 0298 (UK), or 1-866-693-9766 (US).
