My vacuum engineer friend loves Dysons ~ he says that they keep him in business!!
The only machine that I have found any use on animal hairs is the Miele Cat'n'Dog model.
The turbo brush is excellent.
Dogs shed most of the time so that means to keep onto of the hairs you need to vacuum most of the time (once a day!). Miele Cat and Dog Complete C3 Canister Vacuum
Pricey but mine is brilliant.
Dyson's are cheaper and now you know why!
Good luck
I agree. My store stopped selling Dyson 8 years ago. Before you toss it out, take it to your local vac shop for diagnosis. They can repair it or take it on trade for a quality vacuum cleaner.
There should be a red insert on the right-hand side on the cylindrical bulge behind the brush cylinder. Check that this is moving when you push the button. The red insert should stay pushed in for the brush to rotate. The insert moves in an out as well as rotates in order to lock in the 'in' position. Mine is a little sticky on the rotation and I need to shake the brush head a little in order to get it to rotate and lock.
I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC24 Animal. This machine is equipped with a sensor which shuts off the brushbar if something jams it. Once you've checked the cleaner head for obstructions, and removed any threads or hair from around the brushbar, you should be able to reset the machine as shown in the video below.
Please note, the brushbar will never rotate when the machine is standing upright, so make sure you recline your DC24 into the vacuuming position before testing it.

If your machine is A few years old it may need new brush roller fitted.
To check roller for wear lie machine on the floor & pull back head end as if vaccuming carpet.
Now get A rule or straight edge hold this over brush roller & sole plate oppening.
Now rotate brush slowly by hand the bristles of the brush should just kiss the edge of rule. If ther is a gap you will need toreplace the roller. http://dysonmanuals.llc.nu/
If you have animals get rid of the dyson and go to a vacuum that has a metal brushroll and better airflow. There is no fix on the dyson they just are not good on hair of any kind.
