Somehow my original post got piggybacked on to someone else's and then I put computer in the subject line instead of projector. Not my day. Here's my original post -
My brother in law bumped our ceiling mounted Sharp XR-10X Multimedia projector and it fell. He caught it on his back, and it kind of rolled down his side slowly with him grabbing at it, then landed on the floor. (from about his knee) We plugged it back in and it comes on and the light goes to green. Notevision comes on the screen and then it shuts off and the light goes to flashing red. After reading some posts, I took it back down and cleaned the filters out, they were dust-filled. But it still does exactly the same thing. Can anyone help?
I think this projector uses a color wheel. It's literally a wheel a transparent wheel divided into different pie shaped colored sections.
I am not an expert (or even close) on these proejctors, but I would guess that a fall like this would cause a mechanical problem and the wheel is a mechanical part. If it's not allowed to rotate properly it could be the problem.
If you're in a brave mood you might open it up and see if the wheel is able to spin freely.
Good luck.
I have a question about your original post.
You said, "We plugged it back in and it comes on and the light goes to green. Notevision comes on the screen and then it shuts off and the light goes to flashing red."
When you said the "light goes to green", and "the light goes to flashing red", what light are you talking about? Are you saying the image projected on the screen is green and then flashing red, or are you talking about one of the indicator lights on the projector? If you're talking about an indicator lamp, which one(s) are you talking about.
Cleaning certainly won't hurt anything, but I'd be surprised if dust or dirt were causing this problem. I looked at the manual, and as you said, the red flasing power light indicates an abnormal situation. The only thing the manual suggested is checking the lamp cover. It sounds like there is an interlock on that cover that would prevent the projector from working if the cover is not in place. The fact that the projector lamp comes on would lead me to believe that this interlock is not the problem. With that being said, I would still look around once the lamp cover is off to see if you can see the interlock.
Have you removed and re-seated the bulb? Again, I don't know that this will make any difference, but it should be a relatively easy thing to try.
The fall you described (from about knee height) onto a carpeted floor (was it carpeted?) does not sound like something that would cause an electronic problem. This just feels more like a mechanical issue. The projector has relatively few moving parts, the color wheel and the fans and from what you've said they all sound fine.
If you have not tried re-seating the bulb please let me know.

I pretended to be replacing the bulb (altho the bulb lights up fine in the few seconds that the projector runs before shutting off) and could actually access the color wheel from there. It is turning freely. I can't really figure out how to get into the main part of the projector, altho at this point, I would do it if I could because it's basically worthless otherwise.
Hi, OhioTom,
Thanks for answering my post! The light I'm talking about is the power light on the top of the projector. According to the user guide, when something is abnormal it flashes red and won't turn on. So obviously something is abnormal. I'm just trying to figure out if it might be something we could fix or even have fixed cheaply. This morning I plugged it in again and took careful note of the sequence. At first when I plug it in, the power light is red. I push it (to turn it on) and it goes to green and that's when the projector lamp comes on, dimly at first then warming up immediately to bright (normal) projection. But within 10 seconds of turning it on, everything clicks off and the power light flashes red. I did look at the fans on the side this morning and all three of them seem to be turning fine. After the original fall of the machine, I pulled the filters out and they were really dirty and dusty. I cleaned them and put them back in, but I'm wondering if some dirt from them may have gotten jammed in somewhere. I may try to vacuum that side of the projector (where the filters are.) Any suggestions are welcome! Thanks again!
