Philips HTS3541/F7 Region Code Problem I thought I could hack. Bad idea. It still plays Blu-ray's just fine but no matter how many times I hit 8689310 or 8689311 I can't get it to play any of my DVDs.

Check with an other known good disc. If it shows the same for that disc too, its laser pickup unit has the fault, and should be replaced. Contact any experienced service technician. If you suffer from region code troubles, you can download a region free DVD player software tool on your pc and then you can play discs of any regions you want. You can try Leawo Blu-ray Player which is a free Blu-ray player and a region free player.

I think if you try a CD disc, you will find that disc will play. The Optical Pickup(laser) has worn out of specification. There are actually 3 lasers in the unit; a CD, DVD and Blu Ray lasers. They are all use different wavelengths of light, so one laser cannot cover all 3 wavelengths. Unfortunately, you will need a new pickup. Again, try the CD. I'm 90% sure it will play fine, unless the pickup is covered in dust(like my house :-(. Check current region code
Open the Philips HOME Screen
Type on your remote: 8520
This will display all of the current settings for your player.
Example: Region_Code: DVD(2) BD(B)Change region code
Turn on player with no disk inserted
Press "Open/Close" on the remote control until the tray is open
Press 8689310 - 0 means all region
Press 8689311 - 1 means region 1,
Press 8689312 - 2 means region 2,
Press 8689313 - 3 means region 3,
Press 8689314 - 4 means region 4,
Press 8689315 - 5 means region 5,
Press 8689316 - 6 means region 6.
Now the front Buttons might not work!
Go to SETUP and click on RESET FACTORY SETTINGS
Wait until the player restarts and now you can play all DVD regions

Sounds to me like a laser alignment issue, quickly get a support case going with the Manufacturer as most have a one year warranty whether or not you have a receipt.

1. Press Home
2. Press on R/C 8 6 8 9 3 1 0 (the 0 being multi-region)

Blu-Ray players' region hack proceedings are yet to come.

No disc in tray
Press Home
Scroll to settings
input code: 13893108520

The settings will pop up and you will see that the DVD region is now set to 0 (meaning region free).

I have checked the hack on a BDP8000 (region 2)and it sets the region to 0 (the 7th. digit from the left) alright, but it does not make the player region free as a message from the disc (MGM) comes and tell that the disc is not supposed to be played in this region. The region on the player can be changed to the region by changing the "x" in 138931x8520 to the actual region you want to play.

Try this out. The hack codec for blue ray are not yet published so it is not possible to make Blue Rays totally region free as of now.
