Spin cycle will start then stop then start again then stop

When my kenmore 500 top loading washer reaches the spin cycle it starts for a few seconds then it stops. After about 60 secs it starts for a few seconds then stops again. It takes longer to start each time. I've unplugged it till I could ask if anyone has got any idea what is going on. The lid switch appears to operate as it should.

Possibly the motor is the problem especially if it is a 3 speed motor

If it is a top loader, open and make sure the clothes are evenly spaced in terms of weight. If they are not, the spin cycle has an auto stop built in when it detects that the basket is out of balance

I bet your problem is in the timer control. There is a piece of cardboard that can be easily removed. You can then see metal extension rods with contacts attached. These rods can be adjusted so the contacts can make better contact. Here is a link to help you better understand. https://youtu.be/pdiDGySo3uI

SOURCE: Kenmore 500 top load washer starts to fill withwater then stops

This is commonly caused by a lid switch malfunction. If the washer fills, agitates, then stops at the rinse and won't drain, or if the washer does an initial fill, then stops, this is a symptom of a lid switch malfunction.

The following link explains how to access and/or replace one:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r385198-replacing_lid_switch

The lid switch is usually mounted under the washer top casing, on the right hand side on most top load models. It is activated by a plastic piece on the lid (called a "Lid Strike") through a small hole on the rim of the wash tub opening. In many cases the lid strike breaks off the lid, or the lid switch becomes loose and no longer makes contact. Inspect the lid to make sure the lid strike is still intact, and then inspect the mounting screws (adjacent to the small opening on the wash tub rim) and make sure they are snug.
On some models, the lid switch is located under the top casing by one of the lid hinges. You will know if you if you have this type of switch, because It does not have a lid strike and the small hole on the right hand side of the wash tub will not be present. This switch is actuated (toggled) by a rod on the lid hinge. With this type of switch, if you locate it and it can be toggled by hand, you may only need to adjust the actuator by bending it slightly.

If the lid switch is found to be defective, it can be purchased at any of the following websites:

searspartsdirect.com
applaincepartspros.com
pcappliancerepair.com
repairclinic.com

The average price is $25 to $35. Prices vary between these sites, so shop around for the best deal.

This is a very simple repair, but if you still have questions, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

SOURCE: I have a Maytag LAT2500AAE top load washer. The

check the balance ring on the tub just below the tub cover and tub cover gasket which can be done from the top of the machine by removing the top cover, while doing this pull and push tub from side to side and see if it moves easier in certain directions, if it does you may have a tub spring broken on the tub leading to an un balance condition cause the springs stabilize the tub like a shock absorber on an auto, if this is it then you need to access the lower unit area by removing the front cover of the unit there are screws at the toe kick panel to remove this panel

My Kenmore Elite Oasis washer unbalanced signal seems to be very sensitive. Only after several tries of readjusting the load to get it really even that the washer will spin without stopping. I made sure...

If the washer throws an UL error code with out any clothes in the washer then the issue must be concerned with the mechanical alignment inside the machine or a bad CCU.

The most common problem which can cause this is some sort of mechanical hinderance which does not allow the basket to move freely.

The suspension system which holds the basket in its place might be faulty and causing the unbalancing. In this model i think there are plastic ring at the bottom of the basket . Even if they are worn out or moved out of position it may cause the UL error code you are facing

Washer agitates, drains OK, but spin doesn't start

Timer is defective. Your unit has a netural drain. When finished agitating, the shuts down and then starts up reversing to drain and spin. On the initial reverse start, the water drains without the transmission spinning. After a timed period 3-4 minutes, the timer is supposed to pause, stopping the motor for a few seconds. When the motor stops again, the transmission shift to the spin cycle and when the timer resumes power tothe motor it should spin. You are doing the same thing when you lift the lid...stopping the timer and then the tranny shifts and when you set the lid down, the washer spins. Replace the timer.......
