I haven'tt used my Sony DCR-TRV20 camcorder in several years. I was going to started digitizing the tapes but when I power up it up the cassette compartment will not open completely so I cannot load the cassette cartridge. I found a suggestion about unplugging the power source, turn the unit to VCR or camera for 15 seconds, turn the camera off, plug in the power source, the try opening the cassette compartment. It didn't work. Any suggestions on how to get it to open?

Good Day, you need to supply 4.5V DC regulated to the loading motor, however you should disconnect the connector from main board to loading motor, in order not to damage the driver IC. If your technically inclined, and you have the equipment, do it, if your not sure, just refer it to the nearest svc ctr. thanks

I think your ejecter motor is not working.temporarily open with any tool.

I have the same problem. If I remove the battery for a few seconds, then replace the battery and wait about 5 seconds, the tape compartment closes.

I would take it back to Radio Shack and demand your money back. I would do some research on sony's website and find the right cleaner for you camera.
This can be caused by several problems including a defective eject switch in the cameras internal circuitry, a stripped gear or a bad motor. This will require disassembling the camera to repair and can usually be done fairly inexpensively. However, it's not really a user serviceable problem and should be repaired qualified service technician.
