Look at the power supply first since it is easier to get to, look for burnt parts, bad capacitors, etc.

SOURCE: vizio vx42L no power will not come on just went

First place to check will be the power supply, look for blown fuse, burnt parts, bad caps with bulging tops. Check for DC voltages, you should have 5, 12, and 24vdc at the power supply DC output connectors.
Parts: check www.shopjimmy.com

SOURCE: Vizio VX42L LCD TV died?

it is the power supply. in the given scenario like yours, the PSU is the suspect in 90% of the cases.

SOURCE: My Vizio VX42L is flashing like a strobe light.

Mine did the same thing. Remove the stand and back of the tv. Be careful with screen do not lay on hard surface and scratch. When you take the back off you will see a board on the left side and a board on the right side. They are labeled slave and master. Remove the ribbon cables and take board out. There are 2 capacitors on each board (about an inch long). These are probably all bad (ends bulged a little with black stuff on bulged end). Radio shack has them for less than $2.00 each. turn the board over and you can read the size of the capacitor. You need someone who can use solder wick and remove all four capacitors and solder in new ones. Notice how the capacitors are turned. Each one is labeled with a dash for negative. Make sure you bend new capacitor connectors the same and put back in the same way. Put the boards back in the tv and attach all ribbon cables. Put back and stand on. hook up your power and cable box and you are ready to watch tv with no more strobe. Me, my husband, and son did ours last week. I looked up the problem on the internet, husband removed stand & back, son with the steady hand did the soldering. Family project that went well for once.

SOURCE: I. Have a vizio 42" led tv i took off the back panel but i could not find where the T-con board . Does this tv have one or is it integrated to the main board. Thanks

To some model sets, T'Con board will be a built in part of the display panel; and cannot be replaced. If the T'Con board go bad to these type sets, display panel should be replaced.
To some other models, this board can be located at the back of the panel itself. Normally it will be fitted under metal shield. Just see the pictures.

No picture no sound amber light on

There's no 3.2 v off U33 (main module) I wasn't able to find AMC1117, So I used a Radio shack LM317T. this supplies 3.3v to video processor and associated circuit. this won't blow fuse.

Blue line going vertical on my vizio VX42L

Check all the connection sockets from T'Con board to LCD panel for any loose. Re-seat them. If this do not help you, T'Con board is faulty, and should be replaced.

I have a Vizio 50"

Good day!!!

That problem is usually cause of bad inverter board or T-con board also there is the possibility that you have failing capacitors....

If your TV is totally black even back-light the problem is inverter board..please try to replace it to fix your TV.

If your have back-light but no image comes out...The problem could be on the T-con board..if that so please replace it...

This is for bad capacitors...

1. Open the back cover of your TV.

2. Look at the power supply board..Its normally connected to the power cord..

3. After that,,try to look at the actual image of capacitors if it is bulged on the top so that you can easily determine the bad capacitors..

4. After that,,try to replaced the bad capacitors using soldering iron and soldering lead..replaced the capacitors only with the same type ratings and value..

5. Some of the capacitors not bulged so its better if have a capacitance meter..

Look at the label capacitors...That is the sample image..

I hope this solution will be helpful...Thanks for using fixya...

Should have 3 in the power supply - 2 on the inverter- and 1 on the T-Con.

Vizio vx42l hdtv back light

If backlight went out then sound should still work. Are there any indicator lights to show power is coming on anymore? Try unplugging for 30 seconds, hit power button a few times, then plug back in and try to turn on. This drains any capacitors of power to attempt to reset (basically clearing the TV's throat).

Can also try something on a different input. If current input is composite, S-video, or component, try using DVI or HDMI connection as this uses a different board in the TV. If that fixes it, then at least you can try to replace one board instead of entire tv. :)
