Depending upon what you are printing and how you want it to look. Also cost is a factor. We sell new and used printers at our storefront. If you are printing items you do not want to smear if they get wet - Go laser. If you are printing photos on photo paper - Go ink. Some people fail to tell you when selling a color laser jet printer that when you are are printing just black, you are also using each of the colors a little. Toner is the lubricant that keeps the drums from squeaking on the blade as the drum inside the cartridge turns. The buildup of excess toner in the waste container may cause the cartridge to fail though you have only used a little in the cartridge. Laser and Led printing black only is the most efficient way to print. We don't usually recommend color laser printers unless that is all you are going to print are full color documents. Color can be expensive. Inkjet is more expensive to only print black with. While if printing color, it is less expensive than laser. If you need more information please ask!
The problem is usually caused by printing a PDF file with fonts/page size/ page formating errors which will cause the printer to display the 49.3048 error. The only way to use the printer is to POR or recycle the power and delete the print job from the server or spooling device and cancel it on the printer before the offending command is issued to the printer again. You can try updating the firmware to the latest version 46.140.5 from the HP website. MIke L.

You will need to replace the image drum. This is either due to the face that you have exceeded the number of pages/cycles that the drum supports or the drum has damage. If this is the drum that came with the printer, it is likely they shipped it with "starter" supplies which last a fraction of the time as the regular "full retail" replacement supplies. A URL for HP's instructions on how to replace tn image drum on the HPCLJ 2550 series follows: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&taskId=125&prodSeriesId=388394&prodTypeId=18972&prodSeriesId=388394&objectID=bpl12241
