I would go into google App Store and delete this app. I would find another even a desktop one would be beneficial over a non working app. Even go on the web and download one from there.
In many applications once the app is open you can press the volume up / down buttons to adjust the volume in that application. Many times however the volume will effect the whole device and not just that app. so notification sounds etc will also be lower.
Even though the app icon disappeared the app is still on your phone and that's why the app store won't reload it. Go into setting and then applications and delete what is left of the program, then the app store should let you reload it.
