This condition last for appro. 1-2 minutes, then the piture comes back, a little dark but over time it gets back to regular brightness. Then in about 5 minutes, it does it all over again... This is now a regular, periodic problem.

You are losing screen voltage or whats called the boast voltage most likely. This is probably being caused by a bad capacitor in the sweep power supply. You will need to get a service manual as well as use an ESR type capacitor meter to find the bad capacitor(s). Good Luck

If you pull the right side out (as you look at the front), get you ear down to the fan exhaust area and turn the set on. If you do not hear the fan turn or feel air being blown out, then you have a defective fan. It is a common problem.

The power supply regulator board has the fault. There ie no repair to this board. You have to replace it as card basis.
