Canon MG 3150 I have a bogus paper jam error(E03) which will not clear.
I turned the printer on. There had not been a paper jam when I had last used it, about 5 hours before. That earlier print - only 6 pages, one sided - had completed without any problems. Nonetheless, the E03 message came up. I followed the procedures in the manufacturers manual, and despite using a bright torch (or flashlight if you prefer) could find no trace of any bits of paper in any of the rollers I could see. I also gently hoovered the inside in case there was some other foreign body lurking anywhere - dog hairs for example. I still draw a blank. My suspicion is that either the sensor is awry or the firmware is somehow misinterpreting the input or looping or or or... I have tried confusing the machine by selecting random sequnces of controls - scan, maintenance etc. and tried doing things like booting up with covers open, and many more increasingly desperate and hatstand nonsensical things. My next move is likely to involve the machine flying out of the window before approaching the ground at such speed that the inevitable landing would probably end with an unauthorised (or unauthorized if you prefer) dismantling procedure, voiding any warranty. Oh, I have also tried to run some Canon diagnostics from the pc over a hard usb link (how quaint) but the diagnositcs tell me that there is a paper jam. My reponse -and fixya regarded my choice of words as profane - was to scream "Really. No Sh*t.)
ANyway, does anyone have any bright ideas or is it a terminal condition. If it is, then its a shame. It has been the best printer I have ever used - not just at home but also at work.

Re: Canon MG 3150 I have a bogus paper jam error(E03)...
While not quire familiar with this printer I have some ideas.
first most paper detection involve either mechanical switches or sensors. The sensors use the white paper either to reflect or block the sensor beam. Then as paper moves through logic resets. ( from your message I think you know these but just put as refresher).
you have checked for physical paper and found none, so I would get a can of air and spray sensor slots as paper dust can build up over time and the dust looks like paper to the sensor. If you have air compressor open all cover and remove ink or toner and spray away.
this is more prevalent in the higher speed printers, but can build up over time.
Not sure if the printer says where the jam is located which would be helpful.
thanks Larry, I'll give it a try. My son, who really does know what he is talking about, thinks he can force a factory reset in case it is the software getting in a pickle but I'll try the air can first. sorry - it sounds as if I were suggesting that you don't know what you are talking about, which is completely untrue - I just mean that he is not full of b**s**tsorry - it sounds as if I were suggesting that you don't know what you are talking about, which is completely untrue - I just mean that he is not full of b**s**t

1, Switch Off your Canon printer and remove the paper trays if present. Inspect if any wrinkled or damaged papers are present.
2, Lift the back cover of the printer if applicable. Open the other doors that give access to the ink or toner cartridge and the paper path. Remove the cartridges and do not expose it to direct sunlight.
3, If bits of paper are found, discard them by pulling the papers firmly. Manually rotate the roller gears to free the paper. Repeat the above steps if the error message appears repeatedly, once it has disappeared, reinsert the toner cartridges and paper trays.

The E30 error means that the scanner unit either can't determine the size of the original or that the document is too small when "Fit-to-Page" copying is selected.
Check that your original is face down on the scanner glass (or face up if you have an automatic feeder). Also, check the position and direction of the original. You may need to copy the document without the "Fit-to-Page" option. Then copy the original in several sections.
