My Hitachi leaf blower was smoking after short term use

My leaf blower almost smelled like was something burning

  • lbrac Mar 21, 2017

If it was smoking from the muffler/exhaust, it is likely a combination of oils used to produce the blower components burning off and the oil in the fuel mixture. If this describes what you see, it should gradually lessen as the engine heats up and "cooks off" the oils in the muffler. Also, the oil:gas ratio of the fuel mix will tend to smoke more with richer oil:gas ratios (more oil in the gas), and more so when the engine and muffler have not reached full operating temperature.

The engine gets hot, and the smell is likely not anything to worry about.

Electrical burning smell

I had one like this. The problem is probably something wrapped around the blower. You may have injested anything from string to a piece of plastic.

Heater of car smells

A mouse or leaves from a nearby tree have gotten into the AC/Heater blower motor and they are touching the blower motor speed control resistor, this is very hot and makes them smolder and smoke and smell. You will need to remove the blower motor from the housing that it is in and clean out what ever is in there.

I have the Superblower 51591 and the blower turns on, but the engine starts smoking and has a burnt smell so I have to shut it off. Any idea what could be wrong?

There is either something overheating inside the blower, likethe brushes or loose wiring or loss of insulation on the wiring.

Smoking can only mean one thing, and that is...unless you are a licensed electrician or know somebody who is, the best thing is to scrap it and get a new one.

My toro blower stopped working after only 10 minutes

Hi, normally when an electric motor smells of burning the damage is done, if it's new you need to get it fixed under warranty, trying to repair it yourself will void warranty

Motor smokes

If an electric motor is smoking, most likely it is in the process of burning out the windings in the motor. This usually starts from using an extension cord that has too small a wire or a cord that is too long. when you do thid you are forcing the motor to pull more amps than it should to make up for the voltage loss in the cord.
The fuel for the electric motor is a term called watts. Watts equals volts times amps. If the voltage drops then more amps are needed to feed the motor enough watts. This caused the motor to over heat and this melts or breaks down the insulation on the windings. When this happens the motor starts to short out and once this happens then you can not save the motor.

Electric lawn equipment should be used with #14 or #12 (never use #16 or #18 gauge ) guage extension cords and should not be used with cords longer than 50 feet. Also you should not run the equipment more than 10 minutes with out a 30 minute rest.
