Ticking sound when running microwave

When i run the microwave i hear a ticking sound. it has no problem heating the cup of water

  • MikeD2 Jun 22, 2008

I have the same problem with my Kenmore over the range Model #636893.
Microwave works fine but in the last few days it started making a "ticking" or slight "buzzing" sound while running. It is about 4 years old.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

It may be a noise coming from the turntable motor or stirrer motor, if so equipped.

If it's not too loud, I wouldn't worry about it unless it gets louder or you get further symptoms.

Hi, I have an over the range microwave oven that just stopped working. When you close the door it just keeps running and won't shut off. I unplugged it and plugged it back in and checked the breaker.

SOMETIMES A DOOR SWITCH GOES BAD AND BACK FEEDS POWER THAT RUNS THE FAN AND IF IT HAS IT SOMETIMES THE TURNTABLE TOO SO YOU HEAR THE FAN RUN ALL THE TIME BUT TYPICALLY IT IS NOT HEATING. YOU COULD PUT A SMALL CUP OF WATER INSIDE TO SEE IF IT IS HEATING, PROBABLY BAD DOOR SWITCHES OR BAD CONTROLLER.

Clicking sound ge microwave spacemaker xl1400

There should be a buzzer sound that is made by a piezo. If it isn't sounding correctly then it must have a bad solder joint on it, or the ic that controls it is malfunctioning

My GE jvm2070BH002 Microwave starts but stops.

Sounds like the control board. Not many parts in a microwave oven. That is the only one that generally goes intermt

The microwave has power and seems to respond to keypad, but does not heat. I tried many auto and manuel settings. It also makes sort of ticking or scratching sound when turned on.

HI:
The most common reason for no heating is the High voltage diode fails causing the no heating problem, if you are hearing so sort to ticking sound the diode may of come loose from the high voltage capacitor inside the unit and is sparking. I would have the unit checked for loose connections inside the unit, I don't unless you have experience working on microwaves, recommened you try repairing it yourself, as there is alot of voltage on the capacitor circuit of microwaves, at least 10,000 volts at its terminals, and need to be discharged before any service is atempted.

Whirlpool MH3184XP Microwave Turns On, Heats, but sounds like fans not working. 4 years old, fans worked fine until they seem not as loud anymore. The magnetron is working fine as it heats (did the 1 cup...

Suggest you pull the plug out, remove outer cover and place a cup of water into the micro. Set power to minimum then switch on and take note if the fan works or not. If not, switch off immediately and have it replaced(magnatron will burn out if left to run without fan.)

Microwave

Hi

3 things can fail - the control board, the inverter board, or the magnetron. If the microwave runs for about 7 seconds with a ticking sound..then stops and shows "F-9", it is the magnetron that has failed. The fact that the unit starts and runs with the TICKING SOUND means the control board is sending signal to inverter board and the inverter board is sending signal to magnetron. Magnetron is covered by full 5 year warranty, inverter board is only 3 years.

If this is not the case then it could be a defective control board, inverter or line voltage too high.

Please do rate the solution as "FixYa" if found useful and revert for further assistance.

Thanks

F-9 Error after running a few seconds...

If this is a "SmartWave" branded microwave oven then F9 is an error that indicates an inverter board or magnetron has failed. Either way.. Try this...With the F9 error cleared, start the oven and listen for a ticking sound. The inverter will attempt to 'fire' the magnetron 5 times.(ticking sound). If can hear ticking, replace magnetron....Else in may be a door switch problem
