You will need to know the operating system or model number to determine which version of a Mavis Beacon product is compatible with the Inspiron Mini. The Inspiron Mini 9 came with Windows XP. The Mini 10 1010 could have XP, Vista or Windows 7. The Mini 10 1012 came with XP, Windows 7 or Ubuntu Moblin. The Mini 12 1210 came with XP or Vista.
I learned to type on Mavis Beacon, but there are better programs out there these days that will have fun games and good graphics for getting kids engaged. I think that Mavis Beacon may be a little more sophisticated and could come off boring for younger kids.
First add yourself (or have an admin add you) as a user on the 2nd computer. Login into your account and start Mavis Beacon. Create a name and do an activity or two. Exit Mavis Beacon and open your My Computer icon Navigate to the following folder: C:\Documents and Settings\YourUserName\Application
Data\Broderbund\Mavis\
Now delete the existing prefs.dat file and copy your prefs.dat file into the "Mavis" folder. Restart Mavis Beacon and you're ready to go.
