Mine is a Bosch VarioPerfect that that was showing E21 fault code with the door completely locked so I couldn't open it. I removed the pound coin trapped at the bottom right, where the motor is located. I used the short tube to empty some of the water that was in the there first. I also cleaned the end of the waste pipe, under the sink because it had trapped some fibres there. I then turned the dial to the Off position, pressed the Start Reload button down and then turned the dial to 11 O'clock which is "Easy-Care Dark" on the dial. I held the Start Reload button down a little longer and that caused the door to be released. Everything seems fine again on the test Rinse cycle now. I will also test with a Super Quick wash to be sure.
The electronics lock out during power surges like you would get from brush failure giving e 21 error. you have to access service test prog to reset this, and it is not in public domain.
i do know how to reset it though but difficult to explain on this forum you may find a you tube video if you search online.

E21 is telling you that it has not drained the water out. You may have something stuck in your drain pump.

E21 indicates that water is not draining from the machine fast enough. This can be caused by a kink in the drain hose, a problem with the pump or a problem with the pressure sensor.
On my washer, there's a copy of the service manual inside the machine - remove two
screws in the back and take off the top. The manual includes the error
codes and the steps to take.

Hi from retired Englishman in SW France,
Zanussi's 'E21' stands for 'difficulties in draining'.
I would gently suggest as a first step that you clean the drain motor/pump lint tray/filter. So many 'faults' are caused by blocked filters and many machines will not even go to rinse or spin or release the door lock if there is any water still left inside.
Following are my complete and hopefully 'coverall' pre-typed guidance notes for checking both the drain motor filter and the drain motor ;-0)
REMOVE POWER AND ENSURE YOU HAVE A WATER RECEPTACLE/RAGS TO SOAK UP THE WATER WHICH IS BOUND TO POUR OUT (alternatively use a wet vac as sensibly suggested by VinnyB1234!)
If you are unsure where the filter is, it is often behind the front lower (kick) panel (or in some machines at the rear in an awkward position!). These panels are either held on by (plasic) screws or will just pull off. Most filters are held in by a round cover/knob. Sometimes the filter will not come out with the cover and you will have to persuade it to come out to play.
It's surprising what people have found in theirs! It is always worthwhile checking it on a regular basis.
Now- whilst the filter is removed it is normally possible to see the drain motor and ensure it is not jammed by a foreign object such as a needle or a toothpick. It should be able to be turned by hand/finger- the power IS OFF!
At this point it is also possible to test if the motor works. No clothes or water in the machine, select a spin cycle and put the power back on. You should be able to see the motor turning at some point, possibly straight away. Using something suitable like a glove see if it is easy to briefly slow the motor down. If it is easy then the motor is malfunctioning.

Sorted now. Pressed START BUTTON and turned dial back to 11 O'clock and returned to 12 O'clock and then released START button.
