Stihl BG 55 Blower Starter Rope Won't Pull.

I noticed it had a metal rattling sound on idle and when you rev it up. I rev all the way up; wide open. After a little while we quit hearing the noise. Cut the blower off when he was done with it. Needed to do a little more work so I picked it up and it cranked right off the bat then all of a sudden, it died. I went to crank it up, but when I tried to pull the rope, it wouldn't move. I then took the housing apart and tried to manually turn it counterclockwise with the flywheel and it wouldn't budge so I took the blower fan wheel off. I tried to manually turn the flywheel and it began to turn. There was some tension but I was able to turn it. I put everything back together and crank it and it cranked right up, and was blowing fine then died. I tried to crank it this morning but as I pulled the rope a couple of times, all of a sudden I couldn't pull the rope anymore. It wouldn't budge. Do you have any idea what this may be? Went to Stihl website and noticed this model is now discontinued. Thanks Again.

Indications are that there is insufficient oil in the mix and the ring has failed and jammed
you may have to pull it right down or simply junk it
if it has been discontinued then parts may also be scarce

Thank you for your message. Ff the ring has failed and jammed, how can I pull it down? Also, I talked to another source and done a crankcase flush and there was some fine metal debris in the gas.

I just replaced the recoil \\starter rope on my blower

Are you sure you have the right length rope??? If you are sure the rope length is correct you may have wound the recoil spring too tight causing it to run out of travel. You want the recoil spring just tight enough to pull the rope all the way in.

Stihl backpack blower starter rope is pulling harder and harder. When it dose pull it starts right up.

See if your rope pulley is opening up and allowing rope to double over on itself. When this happens the rope will wedge in pulley causing it to pull hard.
