It recorded that last time I used it only for about 10 minutes and it was showing full battery. After that is just shut off and will do nothing.

Be sure to charge for AT LEAST 14 hours on the new battery, even if the charger light goes out - it's still trickle charging. It's normal for most camcorders to auto-shut off after 5 minutes, if it's not recording. But if your batt light comes on, the problem is probably with the battery.

The battery cover shorting isssue is well known and can short a battery, but it would seem unlikely that it will deplete them that fast, as it takes about a day to do so with a fresh battery pack.
Instead, I would suggest you have a close look at your battery compartment contacts. NiMH batteries can leak when they get old, which can cause contact corrosion. Once you get corrosion the voltage can drop below the cutoff point and voilà, short battery life syndrome. Cleaning the contacts with an eraser or, if really bad, with some fine sandpaper should solve this problem.
If you don't use your camera a lot, remove the rechargeables at least once a month to recharge them and put them back in to keep the backup battery recharged. If they feel greasy they are leaking, discard them. NiMH batteries, whether used up a lot or not rarely last more than a few years.

To solve this open the camera and remove the battery chamber (be careful with the cable that joins the chamber with the main board because it is very fragile). Once you have the battery chamber clean all the contacts with a contact cleaner. By all the contacts I mean, the 4 contacts for the batteries and the two contacts (male and female) that join the main board and de chamber. Be careful when you apply the contact cleaner to the main board contact bacause it is a liquid and might harm your lens if it reaches it. I have made this with my camera and worked awesome.

It sounds as though the hard drive is about to go south on you soon and the receiver is going to need to be replaced however, in the interim you can change the options of the recordings and make it a default so that the recording continues past the end of the show. It is possible that extending this time will allow you to view the portion you want before it skips to the end. In order to do this press the guide button and select a program in the future. On the create timer screen select the option icon. You will now be at the timer options screen you can extend the time the recording will last after the end of the show and when it will begin recording prior to the show. I would also set this as your systems default so that it performs the same way regardless of what you are recording. According to the latest known receiver issues this is not identified as it is a common indication that the hard drive has an error internally. If this works I suggest that you have a replacement sent to you so that you do not lose the use of your DVR un-expectantly.Remember to watch all recorded events prior to replacement as you will lose that info when the receiver is swapped. Thanks for using Fix Ya.
