SOURCE: RCA prov712 battery will only last 5 minutes

Be sure to charge for AT LEAST 14 hours on the new battery, even if the charger light goes out - it's still trickle charging. It's normal for most camcorders to auto-shut off after 5 minutes, if it's not recording. But if your batt light comes on, the problem is probably with the battery.

SOURCE: NiMh Battery life camera shuts off powers down with full batteries

The battery cover shorting isssue is well known and can short a battery, but it would seem unlikely that it will deplete them that fast, as it takes about a day to do so with a fresh battery pack.

Instead, I would suggest you have a close look at your battery compartment contacts. NiMH batteries can leak when they get old, which can cause contact corrosion. Once you get corrosion the voltage can drop below the cutoff point and voilà, short battery life syndrome. Cleaning the contacts with an eraser or, if really bad, with some fine sandpaper should solve this problem.

If you don't use your camera a lot, remove the rechargeables at least once a month to recharge them and put them back in to keep the backup battery recharged. If they feel greasy they are leaking, discard them. NiMH batteries, whether used up a lot or not rarely last more than a few years.

SOURCE: Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-W7 Digital Camera--battery problem

To solve this open the camera and remove the battery chamber (be careful with the cable that joins the chamber with the main board because it is very fragile). Once you have the battery chamber clean all the contacts with a contact cleaner. By all the contacts I mean, the 4 contacts for the batteries and the two contacts (male and female) that join the main board and de chamber. Be careful when you apply the contact cleaner to the main board contact bacause it is a liquid and might harm your lens if it reaches it. I have made this with my camera and worked awesome.

SOURCE: Dish Network DVR 625 Problem with playback of recorded shows

It sounds as though the hard drive is about to go south on you soon and the receiver is going to need to be replaced however, in the interim you can change the options of the recordings and make it a default so that the recording continues past the end of the show. It is possible that extending this time will allow you to view the portion you want before it skips to the end. In order to do this press the guide button and select a program in the future. On the create timer screen select the option icon. You will now be at the timer options screen you can extend the time the recording will last after the end of the show and when it will begin recording prior to the show. I would also set this as your systems default so that it performs the same way regardless of what you are recording. According to the latest known receiver issues this is not identified as it is a common indication that the hard drive has an error internally. If this works I suggest that you have a replacement sent to you so that you do not lose the use of your DVR un-expectantly.Remember to watch all recorded events prior to replacement as you will lose that info when the receiver is swapped. Thanks for using Fix Ya.

Batteries do not last but a very few pictures. Even rechargeable ones drain very fast

In DSCW7 Camera, you can use NH-AA-DA (Ni-MH) batteries (this is the supplied one) or Alkaline batteries.
With the LCD screen on, you can capture upto 190 minutes when using the supplied Nickel metal hydride batteries.
When using the Alkaline batteries, the life is only for 35 minutes.
This is a normal operation of the Camera.

The actual battery life will vary depending on how the camera is operated and what functions and types of batteries are used; using zoom and flash frequently will shorten the battery charge.

The average recording time of the battery as listed on the packaging will vary due to several different factors, including ambient temperature and the power consumption of the camera. The battery package states the power consumption specification needed to achieve the average recording time. If the camera power consumption is more than the specification on the battery packaging, the average continuous recording time will be lowered.

Also, batteries discharge faster when used in cold weather conditions. In cold environments, it is recommended that batteries be kept in a warm place before using. Sometimes batteries may recover some power if they are warmed up after being in the cold.

When using alkaline batteries, do not mix new batteries with used batteries. Doing so may reduce the battery life.

DSC-W120 Sony. Movie record time frame

I'm afraid that Sony did not think that this was an important feature. The camera is inherently limited to ~10 minutes. There's nothing you can do to make this happen. See this page from Sony (it's a google cached version because the actual Sony page was down when I checked). Scroll down to where it says "MPEG Movie VX Fine Mode"

You probably need a new Sony "Infolithium" battery, by now. The battery lasts a long time
but 10 yrs IS a long time! If you've never repl
aced the battery, it's time to. They charge ok
but don't last very long when they're near the
end of their life! (Sounds like what you're
describing.) The little disc battery only works
the memory for the Date / time / etc.

Disney Pix Micro Digital - stopped working after 10 minutes

The type or memory in the camera requires a charge in order to store data. So if you have any pictures on the camera it will constantly be pulling a charge from the battery until the battery is completely drained. If you have this problem even with a brand new battery it's possible that the memory may be corrupt and needs to be cleared. To do this just remove the battery and press both buttons several times each to make sure that the camera is completely discharged, replace the battery with a brand new battery and try again. If that fails I'd get in touch with customer service for a replacement.
