> MMV5165BAB hood vent fan runs continuously

You probably have either a shorted base thermostat on the base of the chassis of the oven or a shorted fan relay on the control circuit board.

There should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number from the tag on the oven here.

We have the service / repair manual for this model and have uploaded it to our site here for free download to help you.

The base thermostat (which I believe has thinner pink and yellow wires attached, but not thicker black wires) should read normally open. If it shows continuity (virtually zero ohms or shorted) then it is bad.

Otherwise, I would say you have a shorted fan relay on the control circuit board.

We regularly repair such control units for customers nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid in about a week or so with a one-year guarantee.

Feel free to contact me directly (and please remind me of your full model number from the tag on the unit) for more information & help.

We're happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

This is the most intelligent response to this issue that is on the web. A solution to try (50% chance, but it worked in my case) is to cut the white wire from the main control board that feeds the low speed fan circuit. If it's the low speed relay that's blown, the fan will now be High/Off but won't run continuously on Low. Make sure you know what you're doing, tape off the wire ends, etc. If this fails, at least you'll know it's the thermostat.

SOURCE: exhaust fan is running constantly, without even

It could be that the fan button is sticking or a contact has welded itself closed therefore its getting power all the time.

When Exhaust button pressed, vent fans not working, but microwave running for 30 seconds.

test the components and fix it. God bless you

  1. Exhaust fan motorIf your exhaust fan motor is not running, there are a couple of things that you can check involving the motor to locate the problem. After removing the fan motor, you can manually attempt to turn the fan blades with your hand. If the fan motor is working properly, the blades should spin effortlessly. If this does not occur and the blades are taught, the motor will need to be replaced. Secondly, the fan motor itself can burn out due to time and usage. Using an ohm meter, the exhaust fan motor should read open for continuity. If it does not, then the fan motor has expired and will need to be replaced.
  2. ThermostatAnother part that could cause the microwave exhaust fan to not work is a faulty thermostat. A thermostat gauges the air temperature, which activates the exhaust fan when required. If this part becomes flawed, the exhaust fan will not energize and the thermostat will need to be replaced.
  3. Main control boardIf your exhaust fan is still not working and the microwave fan motor, wiring, and thermostat are operating accurately, the root cause could be with the main control board. Replace the main control board.
