1.First of all check that TOMTOM actually still support this product and only perform updates using a wired network connection - WIFI can drop out and corrupt the downloads
2.Then see if they actually are supplying a new map for the 700
3.Without activating TOMTOM Home, plug your GO700 into your PC and let it recognise the 'drive assignment'
4.Take a FULL backup of all files on the TOMTOM 2Gb disk on your PC NOTE: this is totally separate and additional to any backups you might make with TOMTOM Home.
5.Disconnect your TOMTOM
6.Start your TOMTOM Home software and perform an update check from the 'help' drop down menu
7.Once you have this updated connect your TOMTOM
8.Perform a full backup again with the TOMTOM Home software
9.Search using TOMTOM Home for any GO700 application software updates and install these (NOTE - ONLY INSTALL THE APPLICATION UPDATES)
10.Reboot your GO700 to make sure that it works with any application updates
11.Re-connect your TOMTOM and this time perform a search for map updates to purchase and follow the instructions.
12.It is very likely that TOMTOM Home will say that there is not enough space on the drive to install the new map, it will follow an automatic process to remove your old map and then install the new one that you have purchased on lne from TOMTOM.
13. If Home has installed your new map correctly, when you log off and disconnect your GO700 it should then initialise - the long time bar rebuidling the maps and then start up normally. It can be necessary to reset your GO700 using the rest button under the base.

GOOD LUCK, This is currently a very messy process but one which seems to work for recovering the GO700 in the event of a failure, TOMTOM have been hopeless for me in getting any maps installed on a GO700, so this is my way of getting round their lousy support service.

Does my tomtom have free new maps

If you had originally purchased a (new) TomTom with a "free" lifetime maps, you can download (from the tomtom website) updates to that map free, whenever that map is updated (usually four times a year).
If not, you can buy/subscribe to new maps on the tomtom website, (www.tomtom.com). Just click on "Maps & Services" ... and you'll be able to select and buy/subscribe to the map(s) you want.

My Tom Tom is two years old and I was told that I should upgrade the maps each year. How do I go about doing that?

The Tomtom map updates are available by subscription from www.Tomtom.com Under most conditions it is not really necessary to update every year. The updates run about $40 per year. The best option on most of the small GPS units under $100 is to use it for 2-3 years and then just sell the older one and buy a new unit. The reason I say this is because the map updates only update the maps not the features or the software. The newer units will have new features and options for the same price as you would get with buying a map update your the older unit.

I hope this helps, if so please rate our solution.

TomTom map of Poland is hopeless. should get a free update on a new device. There are a lot of new roads in Poland and the device which I bought 2 months ago does not take it into account at all. Can't...

You will only get a free update on a new device if you install tomtom home on your computer and login withing the first 2-3 months of purchasing your device. Also, if you purchased a device that is "refurbished" or "recertified" then you do not get this free update and your map can be up to about a year and a half old. In this case, you would have to purchase a map update. To update you will have to install TomTom Home on your computer (download from TomTom.com) and login. You can typically purchase one update for about 45 USD or purchase a year of updates for just a little more (like 59.99 USD). A "year of updates" gives you an updated map each quarter for one year. I don't know that I would have bought a TomTom for use outside of North America or the UK. Sorry.

Magellan RoadMate700

I think Magellan makes it so if you don't update your map every year it will freeze up. Mine does the same thing and they told me to buy an update for $99 last year so I did and it worked and then after it started telling me my map was over a year old this year it started freezing up again. I don't want to pay $99 every year to keep this thing working. I wonder if Garman or Tomtom does the same thing.

2 years old need to update maps tomtom 910

Hello mm1112,

Map updates for your TomTom GPS can be purchased and installed through the TomTom HOME GPS manager program. You will need to download and install the TomTom HOME software onto your computer.

You can find this software on the TomTom Plus Services website located here: http://www.tomtom.com/plus/service.php?ID=17.

I can't figure out how to apply for the products I need to download the map updates for my Tomtom Go 700 (maps are about 7 years old.

You have to download TomTom home, plug your device in via a USB device and TomTom home will start up. You can then download and update your files..

Make sure Tom Tom Home has finished updating your device before you unplug it or you will corrupt the device and render it useless..

RoadMate 700/760 Version 6 update maps are over a year old!!

THE CURE for this problem is NEVER BUY Magellan again!!

After paying over £800 for an early Roadmate 700 (which failed and was replaced by a failed/recon version) then to have problems with software.. now having waited a year to get map update and version 6 firmware I find it doesn't give me Magellan Tools which was promised by Magellan Support.

After several mail queries and important qustions remaining unanswered I am buying a Tomtom Go 720T which will do all the updates automatically via a cradle linked to my PV/Internet.

NEVER EVER AGAIN a damned Magellan - great when it works but it's easier to get blood from a stone than good support from Magellan.
