The toast and broil features do not work on my toaster oven Hamilton Beach/Proctor-Silex. The timer and oven works heats up according to the set temperature.

Therefore, the top two knobs work but the bottom one doesn't. I've check the function of the knob. It works fine. I think it's an internal problem - as though something is not connected or connecting properly. I received it second hand from a charity so I don't have a warranty.

Likely the upper element has failed or the contact for it has failed. Either way, likely not worth repairing.

Testimonial: "Thanks Mark. The upper element is working, with the use of the oven. I believe it is something to do with the connection inside. I noticed there are little prongs that connect with another part when turning the knobs. That part connects to the wires leading to the elements. I noticed that the toast and broil "prongs" weren't connecting. I (very carefully and gently) bent them so they would connect but it hasn't made a difference. Sigh."

Same promem here. I now I have the solution. Open the Oven and clean the contacts behind the beakering selection switch. It's a little hard to unplug the contacts... Sanded with a screwdriver or something like that and reconnect and you will be able to do delicious Pizza again.

Black & Decker Toaster Oven - elements cycle on and off, which makes for a SLOW cook.

Oven has three modes: 1) oven mode cycles elements on and off to maintain a specific temp setting for up to 60 min. 2) toast should keep all elements on for a few min. 3) broil mode top elements only always on, up to 60 min. Make sure you have dials in correct position and use the toast timer.

Power light out and doesn't heat

Ticking sound when unplugged? It sounds like a mechanical timer. Check the timer / control setting is actually on a cooking cycle. The unit may be set on delayed start? If there is no power to the unit, there may be a fuse inside it. You may have to take the back / side off to see.

For HB 22708 Toaster Oven: Will it toast both sides of a slice of bread at the same time?

Yes, the Toastation works like a traditional toaster in the top slots. If it is not toasting both sides like a regular toaster then there is a problem. If that is so and if it is still under warranty, then contact the company for repair. If it isn't under warranty, then find a local repair business.

Not Heating

I just opened one with the same problem. The bi-metal switch / thermostat was completely burned out and melted into a small lump of metal. Unless you can get a replacement for that it might be the cheapest to go to a store and buy one new for under $80.
