My Sony WM-D6C walkman has suddenly developed issues with playing tapes too fast and also forward and rewind have stopped working. Is this a drive belt issue or is it electronic?
Initially, it was just the the forward and rewind functions that would not work, but after trying to play a tape again playback has speeded up considerably.

Hmm, when you press play, can you feel the motor turning, do the spindles turn on fast forward or rewind? If so you may have one of two problems. First check to see if the cue button is is depressed. If it is jammed, the deck will FF and RR but won't play. If it's not that, but the motor still spins, the motor is no longer making contact with the flywheel. If you have a repair manual, dismantle the deck and check out the motor contact
WMD6C has a pitch control on the back of the unit that can change the speed of the tape, so switch it off, but if that is not the problem then inside the unit it has a servo set speed pot on the main board. Dave, Electronic Doctors email [email protected]
