Jeanette,
Which OS is it running?
Has the keyboard/machine suffered any trauma?
If not, mouse to updates in your OS and see if any dates and /or times correlate to the issue. You may be able to roll back any of those by doing a RESTORE to a date prior to the problem.
If you do not understand how to do this yourself I or someone may still be able to help you but it will be OS specific.
Keyboards are devices that can fail as easily as any other part of the machine. Even more so since there is the human intervention (finger) factor. The space bar is a heavily used key.....the SHIFT and question mark - not so much. You probably just need to replace the keyboard in the device.
Inside the key, there is a metal bar the makes the spacebar key depress from anywhere you press it. Either this bar as unclipped from its hinges or they have broken.
If the cursor highlight is positioned over the START button (icon) then you can select it by pressing ENTER or SPACE bar, which is the keyboard equivalent of double clicking with the mouse. To move between the fields, press the TAB key (shift TAB to go backwards or to the previously selected field).
usually on the Toshiba laptops you need to hold down the function key to get your numeric pad working. try looking for a key labeled 'fn' down to the left of the space bar. Once holding it down, try using the number pad
its a fail on the keyboard, you can get just the key on ebay check your model number and ebay it, is easy to replace and cheap
