Most LCD TVs that are three years old or older that have the "sound but no picture issue" have experienced a failure of the LCD backlight circuit. Older units were fluorescent bulbs that used an inverter (ballast) to produce the light that shines through the LCD and allows you to see the image. These inverters fail after 3-5 years of use.
I have a television that did this. The picture went out but it continued to have sound. It was the projector bulb. I ordered from a dealer on ebay, very resonably priced. It came with instructions on how to install it and was a very easy fix.
HelloCheck the back light inverter board and CCFL tubes used in the backlight assembly. In most cases, damage to these components couses black screen with sound to LCD TVs. OK.
HelloCheck the backlight inverter board. If it has damged, most common fault to LCD TVs, there will be no backlight to the LCD screen, and will look black. Your tV has sound output without picture. This means that all other boards ar functioning well. Check the backlight inverter section and CCFL tubes used in backlight assembly. OK.
Hello This type of fault occurs to LCD TVs are aminly due to its LCD backlight failure. Check the CCFL tubes for damage. Check the backlight inverter board too. You have to open the tV to do any repair to this fault. You must have sound knoledge in electronics to do this work.OK.
An LCD unit? Sounds like the backlight is failing. When it goes black next time, use a strong light next to the screen and look for a faint image on the screen....
The fault sounds like a invert problem, the inverter supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp which provides the backlight or a faulty CCFL lamp. If you see a dim image when you look at the LCD screen at a sharp angle then this confirms this diagnostics. Yes, It sounds like the backlight inverter circuit is shutting down. No inverter power, no backlight. On some monitors the inverter circuit will shot circuit the power power supply which makes the power light flash on some it just kills the backlight. You can usually check with a flashlight. Hold the flashlight pointed at the screen and see if you can see any of the icons or background picture. If you can then it is the backlight circuit or backlight tubes, usually the circuit.
