There will be one under the seat and if you have to lift a lever to engage the blades there may be one under that

I do not believe there is a manual available to the public for troubleshooting, however, you have at least 3 switches to tell the mower to stop when blades are engaged or clutch pedal released.

Seat switch
pedal switch
mower engage switch

The pedal and mower lever switches are identical, and have two sides, one for starting, one for blades turning. One side can fail. The pedal switch is on the frame very close to the pivot point of the pedal/shaft. The mower switch will be under the dash close to the bottom of the lever.

1) Locate and inspect the switches for broken or pinch wires, switch housing, or loose mounting, and how each lever or pedal engages the swtich.

2) This is a picture of the wiring so that you can get a better idea of location.

The safety switch is under the seat. It senses weight in the seat, and if it's not working properly, the engine will die when you let out the clutch. It's not always a bad switch - it could have simple come loose or the mounting may be broken or misadjusted. Or the connector to it could be loose, or the wire could have been pinched and broken, so check it all out before you replace the switch.

There are other safety switches as well. The electrical diagram shows (2) of the interlock switches (part no. 16 in diagram) in the electrical system. The location of the 2nd one could be on the transmission or the clutch/brake pedal. It could also be on the PTO system (blade actuator if you will). See if you can find the other switch on your unit. I have an LT1000 and have NOT looked for them. Here is an electrical diagram on your unit.

WHEN I LET OFF THE CLUTCH THE MOTOR CUTS OFF

You have a bad safety interlock switch someplace. If you're not on the seat and you let off the clutch, it will die, so it's possible the seat safety switch, or operator presence control as it's commonly referred to, has worn out and needs replacement.

I have a 42in cut 19.5hp automatic trans craftsman when i press the clutch/brake to start then release to drive it cuts off also if i try to engage the blades it cuts off but if i lock the clutch/brake it...

The problem is in the seat safety switch or associated wiring. Lift the seat, find the switch, and take a look for a connector that is off, a broken wire, or a loose or broken mounting for the switch. If all that seems ok, remove the switch and put tape across the plunger so it is activated. Run the mower and see if the problem is solved. If not, replace the switch - it's not expensive. Parts are available from Sears online or at their stores. You'll need the model number of your tractor. Good luck! Please rate my solution if helpful.
