Samsung lcd tv backlight turns off

The backlight goes out after several minutes or hours of operation. The TV starts fine and will sometimes go for a day or two without losing backlight. I have replaced the backlight inverter board, but am still drawing greater than 1V on the inverter in position T203. Does the CFL need to be replaced? I have a hard time seeing an image with the "flashlight" test but the sound is still on and there are no other problems that would indicate a TCON board.

Check and replace the CCFL lamp/s. Some of them; or all of them might be weak. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/

Screen and sound cuts out at times.

I would check the power board capacitors. Many people are losing the electrolytic caps on these boards. It is possible yours are failing only when they heat up.

I think that the connectors from the backlight inverter board that go to the LCD panel's backlight are a bit loose which explains why it comes back on when tapped. I am positive that unplugging and replugging the inverter cables should do the trick. WOuld like to do it yourself? It requires you to open up the tv ofcourse.

This does not seem to be a power supply issue but rather an issue with the backlight inverter board. When the screen goes black, take a flash light and focus it on the screen from a close distance and several angles. See if you notice a very faint image. Try changing the channels to make it more noticeable. Try it and let me know

I am having problems with my Westinghouse LCD TV. When i 1st turn it on, everything is fine but after a couple minutes I lose picture. The audio is fine and continues on. I unplug the tv from the outlet...

No quick fixes. A component such as a capacitor is heating up and failing. Sometimes a cracked solder connection will work fine until it heats up and no longer sustains the connection.

When the screen goes off, shine a very bright flashlight at the screen to see if the image is still there. In many cases, the problem is the screen backlight, which consists of several CCFL tubes (fluorescent lamps) and a circuit board called the inverter (similar to a lamp ballast).

If the image is there, but the backlight is off, then you just may need a new inverter board.
